Hi Friends,

I have a quick question:

Immigration officer stapled COPR with my passport. I don't feel comfortable keeping it in passport. I was wondering if I can detach the COPR and keep in separate?

Secondly, once I get my PR card, do I still need to keep my COPR with me or no?

Thanks

Hi String11, congratulation.
Nice to see an old forum friend landed successfully.
I'll land in two weeks in Toronto either. U mentioned they never asked about B4 forms. How about your jewelry. It is not in our best interest to get stamped forms for goods accompanied and good to fallow?
And how they goons send you the SIN card if not by mail?
Did you already open bank account, apply for health insurance?
How looks you day like in a new country are you relaxed or still stressed?
I wish u Good luck.

Hi samnov,
Don't worry, sin number given at the landing port itself would do. Be prepared with jewelry bills and photograph in duplicate and good accompanied and following lists and declaration on carrying more than 10 thousand CAD. I am also travelling to Toronto shortly. If you don't mind pm me your departure details. regards nd best wishes,td

My Landing Experience

From DHK to IST on Turkish Airlines [appx. 9 hours]

in dhk airport had to pay 1k for each ticket as we bought the tickets before July 01, 2014. they gave a receipt though. foreigners were furious about that.
at immigration the officer didn't say a word. he only took my photo not my wife's so I asked (!) why my photo??? 8) he said the previous photo was not good at their data base, so he took a new one!! :P
my POF was 14720 CAD, I took 10600 $CAD + 2500 $USD + Stocks, all were in my back pack, it went though the machine, no body asked me anything except for the guard who was checking my pockets and saw some bangla taka & said "কত টাকা নিয়া যান??" i said "বেশি নাই রে ভাই!!" ;)
then as usual, the flight got delayed due to a group of French students obviously the delay was due to that extra 1k for each one of them and they were a large group.
after boarding nothing happened actually, cause the seats were kind of small for people above 5'8", u can't move that much (completely my experience). we took off after 25 minutes from the schedule time, but got to istanbul 7 minutes earlier than the schedule time! (সেই রকম টানছে!! :P :P)
we had total 10 bags!! weighing as follows: 27+24+25+11+15+22 and 2 laptops + 1 blanket + 1 large good looking zipper bag!!

The Terminal at IST

at the airport u'll have to go through a security check first then to the terminal, at the terminal there are some brand shops & souvenir shops & food corners, there's also a money exchange, i changed 30 CAD and got 56 lira, for eating only!! they also take international cards. try to find a cart as soon as u get there, it'll be easier to move around with one cart than with 4 bags!!
now, the interesting part, u'll find it very difficult to understand where u should go, so do not hesitate, just ask the man in the info booth for information, s/he'll tell u the rest. i couldn't find the flight no. in the board, so finally i asked at the counter and he told me where to go, and when I got there they were at last call!! now, before entering to the lounge, turkish airport officials will ask to see your passports+copr/ PR cards etc. for security check so don't be worried, they'll also ask u how many bags u checked in from dhaka.

IST to TOR on Turkish Airlines [appx. 11 hours]
now this plane is big, it has individual audio-visual for each person, but again the movement within the seats still uncomfortable. the hospitality is not bad, the food is really good. they gave 2 meals in both the flights. u can watch movies in the audio-visual + TV!! we saw the third-place qualifier match in the plane!! (and i support Germany btw!!)
here u have to fill up the immigration card, it's easy. here's an option says whether u bringing 10k or more n whether u are bringing any plants or not etc.

The Landing
after coming out of the plane we had to walk around 1 km to go to the passport control. when u get there, there'll be 2 segments 1. residents of canada n 2. visitors
as we are the visitors we had to go right and then saw the lines, when we get to an officer, he asked for the papers and asked how much money we are carrying I said around 14k, he wrote it down in the card with a pink marker then wrote some no. with that and then said to go ahead. after that another team was looking at the immigration cards, and there's also a sign saying "pink slips" go this way>>> then we went there and there were around 15 booths with CBSA officers and the queue was really long!! >:( here they check papers and confirm the identity. some officers seem rigid some seem really nice, I saw one talking to the phone for the passengers as she (passenger) couldn't make her (officer) understand, and I saw one got passed thru without a seal & signature, then again another officer came with the passenger and then he signed it off. the environment was really chaotic as the there were quite a few little ones hanging around!! finally our turn came up, we went to the booth, she said hello followed by ask for our papers, after hearing she congratulated us, then she asked the questions in the COPR, then wrote down the address then asked for how much money we are bringing, I again said 14k, she said "all CAD?" i said "no, both CAD & USD" she wrote it down again, then said our PR cards will be mailed to us within 3 - 6 weeks and whether we have any other questions, then showed us the direction to some new comers booths and said "WELCOME TO CANADA"
after collecting some info n brochures we went down stairs to collect the bags, I didn't need any coins to get a cart thou, we gathered our bags in 2 carts then went towards "exit/ sortie".
just when we thought everything ended very smoothly, at the exit the officer showed us another hallway to the CBSA baggage check counters!!! >:( :o after entering there we saw a lot of people are getting their hands in their heads as CBSA officers are cutting n opening each n every box n bag they are checking!! in front of us there was a women, when she got to an officer, the officer asked how much money is she bringing, i couldn't get the amount but, after that we saw that the officer started counting one by one her 100 dollar bills to check the whole amount!! then we were called to the next available officer, he asked for the card n papers, when he saw we are new immigrants, he congratulated us and said are these all that we are bringing?? we said yes, he said, u sure u'll not say that I have a shipment coming in the next year??!! we said, no we're pretty sure!! then, he said how much money we're bringing? we said 14k.
"Ok, then I'm gonna let u guyz go through, let me take that card (immigration), have a nice day & WELCOME TO CANADA" he said.
he didn't even touched our bags!!! :'(
so we came through the door and found my friend who came to pick us up. and he said, "considering turkish, you guyz came out pretty fast, usually people lost their bags n the baggage claim system is very slow with the turkish." (completely his opinion!!)

Experience
transport system is pretty dam-n good here!! got a new cell phone & opened a bank account without paying a single penny!! what a country!! it's really quiet out here!! come on guyz, let's make some noise here!! ;D

Thank you Samnov for remembering as old forum friend.
Yes, i was prepared with everything. B4 forms photographs of jewlery, list of over the counter medications so on.... But to my surprise nothing was asked and looked upon. SIN numbers are give in a A4 paper with ur address on the spot. They told me to remember the number and keep it safe. No cards are issued these days hence no cards will be mailed. Opening a bank account is a click job just find a near by location branch with ur address, you will be guided promptly. Its a place to relax. I think its matter of stress till u find a proper settelment. So far so good.
Safe and Happy landing.

If by keep you mean carry it around, then answer is no you do have to have it on your person. Same goes for PR cards, avoid using them as ID and keep them in a safe place and carry them only when you go on international travel.

COPR will be requested once again at the time you qualify for citizenship. So don't ever loose it.

Regards,

Hi Friends,

I am an Indian Citizen living in USA (Chicago). I am planning to move to Toronto in August. Here's my problem.
I got my PR visa as part of FSW 2013 and need to move there before September 26 2014. Currently I am on H1B visa and my current employer agreed to provide me relocation to Toronto office so I will have job when i move to Canada.

My employer is providing flight tickets for my family (3 members) and relocation expense to move home items to Canada (from USA). Now problem is that I have some items like HDTV (46''), 6 chair Dinning table, Bed, lots of toys and home items which i cant keep with me in flight.
Can I ship those items through cargo or something and I travel through flight?
Do I need to be present when cargo/shipment crosses the border?

Any suggestion will be helpful.

Hi Guys,

I have a question: What is a difference between Record of Landing and COPR?

At the time of landing, immigration officer only gave me copy of COPR and nothing else.

Where is my record of landing?

Thanks

Dear All,

If principal applicant completes the landing formalities and comes back. After that, while principal application is not present in Canada, Can Dependants Land alone (while PA IS NOT IN CANADA)

Thanks.

God Bless.

Yes, the only requirement is that the PA landed first or at the same time.
