Rizmayo and emamabd.

Jazak Allah ul khair.

Dear Friends:

I have heard that if you don't know anyone in Canada, you can open a UPS mailbox and give that as your address for your PR to arrive. Some applicants had done this successfully a few years back. Anyone know if it can still be done?

Thanks,
Cam

HI,

HAD BEEN FOLLOWING YOU AND YOUR POSTS.

PLS HOW LONG TO GET PR CARD, IF I LAND ALONE INITIALLY, PLS CAN I GET THAT OF MY WIFE AND CHILDREN BEFORE THEY LAND,

THANKS

Hi any advise would help and thanks in advance..

1. Out of curiosity, for those who had their first landing with only having temporary accommodation when reaching Canada. How did you keep safe your important belongings? like jewelries for example or important documents. Any suggestions?

2. We did not do our landing yet however one of my child had renewed her passport. Will this cause a problem at the immigration? Do we need to inform our visa office?

Hi JDC:

1. Get a safe deposit box at a bank as soon as you get there.
2. Yes, I believe it is best to tell the visa office, because the old passport number could be what they are expecting at landing and you have something else.

Just my opinion,
Cam

Most people say you should think 3 months for PR card, it could arrive earlier.
You can't apply for a PR card for your wife and children if they have not landed. They have to land and apply the same day...

1. Out of curiosity, for those who had their first landing with only having temporary accommodation when reaching Canada. How did you keep safe your important belongings? like jewelries for example or important documents. Any suggestions? As suggested by another member, you can get a safety deposit box. Many bank provide the box free for 1 year as part of their new comer packages.

2. We did not do our landing yet however one of my child had renewed her passport. Will this cause a problem at the immigration? Do we need to inform our visa office? Do you mean you renewed the passport after getting your COPR? You were not supposed to do that. If you have not gotten your COPR, then this is just routine. You can renew your passports as many times as needed, you just need to send CIC a copy of the passport. At times, your visa officer may ask why you got a renewal, when the old passport was still valid (this is just to check there is nothing an applicant wants to hide on an old passport).

You can check PR card processing times here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/perm-card.asp the site is updated every week.

PR card is processed as part of the landing experience and the processing only start when an individual lands.

I am planning to land in May 2014 with wife and son.For 3 members the funds requirement is CAD $ 17000 (aprox). To have little more reserve I am planning to take around CAD 27000.
My doubts are :
1)This should be in PA's (my wife) possession?
2) Or, Half in her possession and half in my possession-she will declare half and I will declarte half
3)Can it be in such a way that 1/3 in currency, 1/3 in traveller's cheque, and 1/3 in Draft?
4)Should the T.C and DD be as CAD or US $ is also OK?
5)Is it better to take DD from bank or people like Thomas Cook?

If somebody can clarify it will be very helpful.
Thanks in advance :)

Thanks @rizmayo and @cam

@Rizmayo, my child's passport, was extended for another year. She's 5 years old. My daughter's passport was due to expire 3 months after we received request of passport for visa stamping. As I can remember, it was mentioned, that the expiration date of COPR will depend also on the expiration dates of our passports. So we decided to request for extension of one year as otherwise we will have to enter Canada too early than our plan. However in our Embassy once you extend they have advised us to renew as well which we did. We have already our COPR on hand. Please help on what we need to do first?

Her old passport is attached with the new passport. Visa is on the old passport. However my daughter will land later. We did not realize that this can cause a problem at the immigration only when we were preparing our things this week.
Me and my husband are already scheduled to land next week. However my daughter will land later. What do you think we need to do?

passport request - dated last Oct., then we received the aramex last Nov., according to my daughter's passport it was issued early Dec.

Our passports requires 45 days minimum processing :(

Please help on what to do with this only few days remaining before our landing.

thanks

2) Or, Half in her possession and half in my possession-she will declare half and I will declarte half You don't have to show any funds.
3)Can it be in such a way that 1/3 in currency, 1/3 in traveller's cheque, and 1/3 in Draft? No problem with this. But why do you want to do this? Seems like you will be paying commission on both TC and DD
4)Should the T.C and DD be as CAD or US $ is also OK? As per new rules in Canada, US$ T.C can only be issued by American Express and others will not be cashed in Canada. US$ DD will take longer to clear, however if you have no urgent need and are getting a much better rate, there is no problem in getting a US$ DD.
5)Is it better to take DD from bank or people like Thomas Cook? Always better to get it from your own bank (but you will need a foreign currency account in some countries).

If somebody can clarify it will be very helpful.
Thanks in advance :)

You are correct on the validity of the COPR being linked to passport expiry.

Don't worry it is not the end of the world and many people have actually done the same (though they should not have) :) .However, I cannot stress this enough, do not complete your landing till this is sorted out.

You need to inform your visa office ASAP as the passport number is also mentioned on the COPR. They likely will respond in 2 ways:
  • VO will say okay to you continuing the journey on the new passport and will make a note in the system (Most Likely)
  • VO will ask you to return her COPR and will send you a new one. (I have never heard of any being asked this for an expired passport)
You can never predict the kind of immigration officer you will face at time of landing. If you are lucky he/she will just make a note of this and let you be on your way without asking you a single question, or you can face someone who does not think it is his/her job to correct your mistakes ???

If your VO says it is fine for you to travel on the new passport, just keep a printout of the email correspondence at the time of your daughter's landing.

If you don't mind me asking, why are you leaving your 5 year old daughter behind if your husband is also traveling with you (be prepared, CBSA officer will definitely ask you this question as well)?

Thank u very much for the informative reply.
