hi there,
i have a strange question
as a permanent resident in canada, are you allowed to have more than one wife?
and if not what is the authority that should be notified of such act?
waiting for a reply if anyone knows the answer to such issue
It is a valid question. In Canada, it is a criminal offense under Section 293 of the Canadian Criminal Code to have more then 1 wife.
http://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/acts/C-46/page-150.html#docCont
The maximum punishment carried for this offence is 5 years in prison. Though no one has been prosecuted in Canada for this offence for the past 60 years, there is a known case of women in British Columbia who was denied permanent residence and ask to leave country after 10 years in Canada for being in a polygamous relationship.
As for your question on who to inform, the answer is no one, as your case will be denied. Choose 1 wife you want to immigrate with, as this is what all the other people who have immigrated have done.
Sorry if this is not the answer you were expecting.
Regards,
