If PR card is issued before you leave then some one has to courier you the card from Canada. I myself did a short landing & the only risk is if there is any phot requirement.. I don't think there is any other risk

Hi Friends,

We have recently received our visas. Before we were planning for a short landing and then move permanently after 6 months. but now we are thinking to go permanetly due to delay of PR cards (however we are not vert comfortable) and some new requirment of pictures sometimes and to avoid any risk.

I need your advise, are we taking any risk if we do short landing?

and what if we want to return before PR card is being issued.

Thanks,

No Idea about your Q1 & Q2 but you must apply for driving license. I wonder who are those "some people" who are adbsiing you agaisnt applying for driving license.

I think your current license must be minimum one year old to avoid any waiting time.

Seniors,
Thanks for all the help in this forum and especially in this thread. Super helpful !

I am planning to land around mid-July. I wanted to know two things:
a) Can I land alone (and set up things) , before my wife and kid follow me in the next 3/4 weeks' time.
b) In either case what is the proof of fund that I need to show and in what form ? i.e. how much find do I need to carry with myself when I land alone and how much does my wife need to carry when she lands.

Much appreciate your help in advance !

Regards,
Andy

Yes, you can provided your dependents' COPR will be still valid when they land.

b) In either case what is the proof of fund that I need to show and in what form ? i.e. how much find do I need to carry with myself when I land alone and how much does my wife need to carry when she lands.

You need to carry the the required funds depending on the family size -

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/funds.asp

Please note that you need to carry at least the minimum mandated fund for yourself + your dependents even if you (the PA) are landing alone. When your dependents are landing, they need not show funds separately.

Much appreciate your help in advance !

Andy

If it is only 3-4 weeks gap why travel alone? Travel with the family mate.. Not much savings you can make this way. You can stay in a hotel for a week until you find suitable accommodation

I was hoping someone could be of help? I have a question regarding the "Personal Effects Accounting form " BSF186A

My wife is landing in Vancouver to complete her permanent residency and then we are going back to China for another 8 months before moving back permanently with our daughter. I am a Canadian citizen who is a non-resident. My question is, do we need to account for all of our family's possesions on her form or would we be able to keep it much more simple and only list her personal effects such as clothes, jewerly etc. and then when we move back permanently claim all of the other household items, such as furniture, dishes etc. as my possesions or family possesions?

Thanks a million!

On the B4 form, you can put all family members name and put "settler" for yourself, wife and daughter (assume you never lived in Canada before). You would need to list all items (such as furniture, dishes, jewelries, clothes, etc) in the form that you either accompanying or ship them over. Upon your goods arrival at Vancouver, you would be phoned to come to a CBSA office to clear the customs before you can collect the shipped goods or the goods can deliver to your new home in Canada.

Hi friends,

We are a family of four (me, my wife and two kids (7 and 2). We are planning to move to Alberta in 10 days. My wife is pregnant and she will be in her 32nd week when we arrive in Canada.

1. Is pregnancy covered by AHCIP?
2. What is the pre-birth procedure? Should we register with a doctor for regular check-ups?
3. What post-birth procedures are covered (for example, immunization)?

Please advise. Thank you very much!

1. Landing in AB, you are covered by AB health from day 1 as well as your wife and kids and your wife's pregnancy and childbirth.

2. You can try to find a family doctor https://www.calgaryareadocs.com/ or go to a walk in clinic and ask them to give you a referral to an OB GYN.

3. Provincial health care normally covers everything that is medically necessary.

planning in June 2016
Hi folks,
been off the forum for a while now; busy getting ready for the move.
We (self, wife and 2 kids) landed in Calgary on the evening of 10th June 2016 at about 8:30. We spent some time in the queue for immigration. Went up to the counter and told the guy there we were new immigrants here to do our landing. He said "you folks are my first immigrants today. Welcome to Canada". He asked if I was carrying more than 10000 CAD. I said I had more than 10000 on a prepaid forex card, but only about 1500 CAD in cash. He said he didn't care about the forex card, and only wanted details of the cash.
We were then sent to a separate section, where another immigration officer checked our COPR and passports and had us sign the COPRs in 3 different places each (I signed for my kids). I then gave him the photos with revised specifications for the PR card, and he says "aren't the ones you provided earlier good enough?" So I had to explain to him (imagine that!!!) that the specifications for the PR card photos have changed since January 2016, and they now require the bigger photos. He went and asked his supervisor, and she said, "Have they got the bigger ones? Good, take one copy of each."
After that, I gave the goods accompanying list, and he said, "i don't care about what you've got with you now; just give me the list of goods you'll be bringing in later on." I gave him the goods-to-follow lists for each family member. He stamped all the copies, gave one set of copies to me and kept the other set. He then said, "You are now officially permanent residents of Canada. Congratulations and welcome." That was it... he didn't ask about settlement funds (which was a good thing, because I had forgotten to get a statement from the bank about the funds on my forex card).
Collected our bags, went out to be received by my wife's aunt and uncle, who then took us to their house. All in all, a smooth and trouble-free process.
That's my landing experience, folks. Hope everyone else has it this easy.

Congratulations. I'm glad I saw this...I have been away from the forum too and didn't realize that the requirements for the PR Card photos had changed. My wife and 3 kids are going to be doing our landing at Toronto Pearson International Airport this Sunday, 06/19. Our COPRs expire on 06/25 so we needed to land already. We already have flights booked, etc. Very exciting. What are the dimensions now? I'm going to explore the cic.gc.ca site to see what I can find. It looks like it went very smoothly for you. How long did the landing process take in all for you? A couple of hours?

Dear Expertise,

I have landed on 22nd of April in Winnipeg and my Winnipeg address is updated,

Do I need to do anything?

Please suggest.

Many thanks.
Hi, I just wanna ask whether both of your current home address and mailing address have been updated. I have seen mine , only current address of Canada is updated while mailing is still the one from Pakistan.
