Dear Mr Gorax,
please answer my questions.
I am owner of 3 bedroom flat in my country of origin.
Currently I am KSA resident and planning to land in Ottawa in few weeks.
I wonder, how should I describe my above mentioned property while landing.
It is important, because next year I am going to sell my flat and will need to explain origin of this money.
My second question is- how much time will take to encash TCs in Canada?
And is it enough to take photos of few jewellery items, or have been needed to mention weight in gramms
and approximate prices?

Dear Qorax,

If I convert my US drivers lic to Canada lic...are they going to cancel my US drivers lic?

thanks!

Can we convert? what is the process?

yes like in different US state... accdg to Qorax drivers lic between US & Canada can be converted or swappable. You dont need to take the exam or road test.

As u'd intend swapping it -- they'd withhold your US one.

Alternatively u may pursue a separate application - with the US driver's extract & go from G1, G2 & G... just like we did... that is if u desire to hold-on to your US D/L as well. Remember, the mandatory wait times could be waived.

thank you Qorax! :-*

Qorax and other seniors;
I landed in Toronto on late June and I came back after two weeks. I have a plan to move there by October this year. At the POE the officer requested me to fax the permanent address with a one page form to a number shown on the form in order to process the PR cards. I did fax the address the following day. Till date I haven’t got anything from them. My concern is that they mentioned on the form that the applicant should allow 15 business days to update the address. Till date and after more than 18 business days I don’t see my address online. My question, do you think it is okay to make an online address notification and add a new address (which the same I sent earlier ) ? Or is it better to wait? Please advice.

Re Visa stamped in our passport...what is the visa no? is it the nos written vertically on the right side of the page where the visa stamped?

B123456789?!? (not our immig file no.)

It takes 6-8 weeks to get the PR cards... relax & await your turn.

somebody replied to me when I asked in yahoo....

"The visa number is the document number. It is located right below the date of issue/date of expiry."

Is that so? The registry here in Calgary got my husband's US driver's license. When we told the customer service rep that we want to hold on to it, she told us that it is illegal to maintain both driver's license.

Some people have managed to get a drivers license while keeping their old one but it depends on how good you are at begging and how nice is the person you are dealing with but it is true that they aren't actually supposed to let you keep both licenses. What some people have done is after giving up their license and getting a Canadian one, they go back to old country and get their license re-issued there. Old country might not care if you have two licenses or maybe they just tell them they lost the old one.

Like qorax said, you could actually go through the graduated licensing system without telling them you have a US license in which case they would not know to ask for it. This would work really well if you are not moving right away because you could take the written exam on your first trip, then go a year later and take the basic road test and then you are allowed to drive.

However, since it is still against the rules to have two licenses, if you are pulled over by the police and they happen to see both of them, they will most likely take one.
