HI, there, question please:

We are planning a direct flight from Philippines to Calgary for my hubby when he comes to land. I am sponsoring him. Reason for this is he will be bringing our dog with him and it is preferable to have a direct flight to avoid hassles of transferring our dog to connecting flights.

1. Will my hubby be able to go through his "landing" process in Calgary (like what is being done in Vancouver)?
2. Are there CIC and customs people there in Calgary?
3. Ive heard that new immigrants from non-North American countries should land only in Vancouver and Toronto. Is this true?

Thank you for your replies. ;D

Hi pelipeli,

1.) What I know is you can enter any point of entry in Canada unless you are under CSQ.

From FAQs:

Generally, the holder of a Canada Immigration Visa may enter Canada at any port of entry without difficulty.

However, if you first enter Canada at a port of entry in the Province of Quebec, you must have been accepted by Quebec and have a valid Quebec Certificate of Selection or be prepared to document your clear intention to reside in a province other than Quebec.

2.) I believe the process of immigration for new immigrants are standard for all point of entries.
3.) Nope, I know someone who landed in Winnipeg. They've gone through the immigration just fine.
Oh and Im not sure if there is a direct flight from Manila to Calgary.

Not to sound harsh, but I've flown into Calgary Airport and Immigration Officer's there are very American. Rude, up themselves is to say the least, go to Vancouver if you can as they are very polite there.

thank you for the tip, especially for the spray and rescue remedy. our dog will surely get stressed! we have researched the border requirements, bought IATA approved crate, read up on tips , and we also hired a pet relocation specialist to coordinate everything. costs a lot but we want evrything to be smooth.

Before I was also intending to hire a pet relocation specialist, but then it turns out that bringing our dog by ourselves to Canada is not difficult at all. The whole process is very smooth (except queuing and waiting). I would rather use the same amount of monies for dog insurance and relevant examination than paying the pet specialist.

thanks so much for the advice, but we have also considered doing it ourselves, trust me, the money we can save by doing it ourselves, we could use for a few months rent. but then our dog is really one with special needs, has separayion anxiety, gets stressed soooo much.. and isnt used to travelling at all! and my husband, well, im not sure if he could handle the travel with our dog by himself , so we need the pet relocation specialist, more for peace of mind than for the procedure. lol

My dog also has behavioral problems such as aggressive and separation anxiety and gets stressed easily without me accompanying. He too not used to travel especially this was his first trip by plane. Before I always questioned myself if I am capable to transport him myself but after some time working with my dog in getting use to the crate, I soon got my confidence that I can handle the travel with my dog by myself and I don't need the pet relocation specialist. And it turns out, my plan worked out smoothly and he is happily with me in Vancouver!

Your welcome. Once in Vancouver, I also bought a bark control device to keep him from barking if I am not around. I think it works and now I basically don't need turn it on! This cost me about $50 (with tax):

I bought from the internet and ask my friend in USA to bring it to me in China.
