what do you think career as health manager/public career in AB?

I think if you steal my intended job, I'll be mad! >:(

Just kidding!!!! :D

I have kept tabs on healthcare management jobs since I'm going to get my Master's in Healthcare Management. There aren't a ton of jobs. There are more opportunties if you're willing to head to rural Alberta.

As far as public career, you may want to look into jobs with the City of Calgary or the province. Some jobs require you to be a citizen, so make sure to read the job descriptions carefully.

I wish you get job as soon as you earn your degree.so I can be sure that health manager also good prospects. That would be encouraging.
I donot mind to have job in rural but again I am not sure if I can find one in rural Alberta as I am landed immigrant and earn MPH from Europe.what do you think will I be a competitive candidate with European qualification and no local experience.

Honestly, I have no idea. I know HRSDC lists healthcare managers as an in-demand field. I'm not sure as to the scope of potential employees though. I would imagine the competition is tough as most healthcare jobs are technically government jobs & government jobs are usually considered plush. (Lots of holidays, good vacation benefits, etc.) That's why you see competition to drive a bus even though they have crappy schedules.

I think having a back-up is a good idea. I have mine - as I'm an experienced retail manager (and I did like working retail). In fact, if I get into retail, I may never get out to healthcare! :D

We should stay in touch. Depending on how things work out, we might be able to help each other out.

City water is going off shortly. If you're in Calgary, make sure to set aside some drinking/cooking water! We filled out bathtub, a pot on the stove, and two big water bottles.

I have been home all day, it is very hard. My kid is so sad, she could not go to school. she is already use to going to school every morning.

Hope things change soon. I now understand wy people always recommend South East and North East for residence.

At home.

School closures

The University of Calgary is closed today. Students, faculty and staff are being asked to stay home. Mount Royal University is also closed for the day.

SAIT Polytechnic — which is hosting CBC Calgary during the flood evacuations — is open with limited resources. Exams scheduled for apprentice students will run as usual and accomodations will be made for students unable to attend.

The city says all schools operated by the Calgary Board of Education and the Calgary Catholic School District will be closed Friday, citing "ongoing flooding issues in Calgary and region."

The city says: "The Calgary Board of Education schools are contained within the limits of the city boundaries. The Calgary Catholic School District includes the communities of Chestermere, Airdrie and Cochrane. Catholic schools in these communities will also be closed on Friday, June 21."

Check here for the latest from the Calgary Board of Education: www.cbe.ab.ca/default.asp Check here for the latest from the Calgary Catholic School District: www.cssd.ab.ca/.

Other school closures in Calgary include Westmount Charter, Reeves College, Bow Valley College, CDI College and West Island College.

I don't want to spam with pics, but if you guys want more, we have lots. My hubby drove me around some last night (thankfully we have a truck). The Elbow looked as wide as the Mississippi River in some places!

Thanks for the pic. Sending you my email as pm in case you are sending pics to anyone else you can BCC me, I'd be interested to take a look. Or if you're uploading on some blog then please send the URL.

I hope everyone is safe and this passes quickly and things get back to normal soon.

I'm new here and praying for God's protection for everyone in Calgary. Its a place I plan to land someday. After the storm comes sunshine. Calgary shall dry up again and those affected shall find divine favor.

My hubby works at downtown Calgary, was not able to work since friday (office building was flooded) and I am hearing won't be able to come back till later next week. Because all electric transformers were submerged in water so there is no power, and would need to make sure that everything is dry just to give it a shot turning it on. :(

@ Amikety.....

Thanks a lot Amikety, by just putting words and answering questions based on your knowledge and available time you are helping a lot to people who desire to avoid wrong turn in their beginning phase of Canada landing and settlement. I can give you +1 ratings for your kind gesture ....

I am a Mechanical engineer with a wife (B SC microbiologist) and one half year old son. I am from GUJARAT, INDIA.

Dear Amikety, like everyone, i wish to know something about Edmonton and Calgary, CA. I am putting my questions below, please try to answer it by your knowledge and exposure. Basically it is comparison between Calgary and Edmonton.

In which city there are better chance to get job in relevant field after some time? Till I get job in my relevant field, which city can provide me Survival job sooner ? I know it is depending on one's effort and luck a lot, but I expect general inputs from observation through your tenure of stay in Alberta.

I will be the only person who can earn money for my family, to survive there. Will it be possible to carry out expenses on survival job initially ?

I wish to know, in which localities new Indian migrants are living for Edmonton. I also wish to know which are affordable communities from it with easy of public transport as I will not have any personal vehicle to commute if I choose to be in Edmonton.

Which are popular real estate agents for different Indian communities ? How much they charge for their service ?

Is it any helping organization which can help to arrange some initial stay ( like for 15 days ) ?

Which city is better for initial settlement (means finding survival jobs) between Calgary and Edmonton ? Which city (between Calgary and Edmonton) has better field related jobs for my sector of work ?

I expect your time to answer my queries, and I would like to appreciate your kindness for a society in which you don't know anyone. It is big thing....

GOD BLESS YOU for your work and me for this courageous decision.

Regards
