You can check Kijiji for that as well, but a good landlord that follows laws won't rent a one bedroom to 3 people.

You may be able to find someone that will rent a one bedroom to 3 people, but consider if that's the type of landlord you want.

I understand it's normal in other countries for the family to share one bedroom. It's different in Canada. Don't take it personally - just cultural differences and building codes. A child is consider 0.5 a person for building codes. You're allowed 2 people per bedroom. So for you, a wife, and one baby, you have 2.5 people. You would have to have two bedrooms legally. However, you can sleep together in one bedroom. That part is fine. No one can tell you the baby must sleep in a different room.

For a nice area, expect to spend at least $1200 a month. One bedroom apartments near my house (great location, near the Circle Route buslines, #3 busline, and the C-train) is going for $1195 a month. We are also very close to several schools. Most areas of Calgary are decent - just some areas to avoid in the SE.

Very true indeed.. Want to add more; just dont go with "Furnished" apartment, as it will cost you alot. Find some decent place/apartment in any good area and buy used stuff from kijiji initially..

I believe there's an age cut off for infants. I don't remember exactly what it is, but a 7 month old is too big for a bassinet anyway. Bassinets are usually done 2-4 months. (I was also a teaching assistant for 9 years and worked as a nanny.) Perhaps the bassinets where you live now are bigger and hold more weight. In Canada, by 7 months, 99.9% of babies are in cribs. Many babies are able to pull themselves up by 7 months! Not safe in a bassinet at all!

I've never seen a furnished apartment with a crib (or bassinet).

Do your wife and baby have to come with you? Keep in mind air travel is hard on babies (and not recommended for children under the age of 1 by the government). Their bodies are still developing and the changes in pressure on the plane aren't ideal for them. It would be best to keep the travel to a minimum.

You may want to look into an extended stay hotel and get rates there. They should have cribs.

Why would a landlord make you have two bedrooms? One, it's the law. They don't want to break it and get in trouble. Two, two bedrooms are more expensive than one. They make more money. Really, there's no benefit for a landlord to allow 3 people to live in a one bedroom. Especially for only two months.

Thx one more for the info amikety,

In our house here in abu dhabi we bought a baby craddle with adjustable level as baby grows,it can be used up to the age of 3 ,i might take it to canada but that comes at a later stage, for now i have to bring my wife and baby for our first landing ,.........but u raised very important info about babies traveling long distances, especially i will land at toronto intially then take domestic flight to calgary.....so i am thinking of staying in toronto for few days before moving to calgary.....by the way ....is there a train between toronto and calgary.....thats sounds interesting to see more landscapes.....u have any idea how much is the train ticket and the travel duration.

Regards.

They sell 2 stage cribs here. Probably similar to yours. There are tons of laws here about cribs including how wide slats are for the sides. Lots of rules. Enough to make you cross eyed.

A train sounds nice. Babies love that rhythm :)

Very nice post. Thank you for sharing your experience.

Can you please let me know how did you bring your savings from UK to Canada ?

Scorpion.....many thanks to u....i spent some time till i figured out how this website functions, as u said there is no rout from toronto to calgary but there is one till edmonto only......how much distance between calgary and edmonton.....is there a train also between the two cities....the train trip sounds good ,instead of spending money on hotel ,food, car pickups then air ticket from Toronto to calgary.....which i think will cost around 1000 CAD, and the train trip will cost around 900 cad as well......hmmmmm......but twomdays in a train then take another bus or car trip to calgary......wow thats alot of travel.....better stick with my airborn travel plan.

Edmonton to Calgary. Toronto would probably be 2-3 days. It was 3 12 hour days drive from my house in Ohio to Calgary. I lived about 4 hours south of Toronto and 1.5 hours west. (west of Columbus, the capital)
