Hello Calgarians on this forum - I am just wondering if you guys have done a meet up so far?

I haven't. It is a good idea to take this network to a higher level but in my case considering the fact that in the past I asked for help here once, twice and so on, and at that time nobody helped me I am a little sceptical on the idea go further than planning. I realised everybody is busy trying to settle, at the office, with children, among others and that's probably the reason why the meeting has not been a fact yet.In a new country the time is money, believe me, more money than back in our hometown. and of course its harder to get the money too.

As for me, I would like to collaborate with the meeting idea, maybe a group or association (in the future) while I am available or at Calgary. Let me know what we can do together and let's plan.

Regards,

P.S: I don't have hard feelings. Just to make this clear! and sorry for my bad english..! ;)

Hi ,
i would be travelling week and i would like to know is it possible to land at POE if we could bring less amount of money than stated as Proof Of Fund. ( i have applied for two) and Do i need to meet again CAD$ 13837 amount even if i land alone for now.?
2) Or Could it be possible if i could bring half the amount and later my wife could bring other half?
Since the proof of fund is amount of money that's one need for 6 months period . couldn't the half say CAD$ 6000 would be sufficient.?

3) do you have any sample to produce the list of goods with monetary values. As i shopped i haven't kept the price list so i am lost here.

Please provide me your advice and suggestion as i would be traveling shortly..

Flooding has displaced a lot of people. Basements were hit worst. Most basement apartments that had flooding are unlivable.

NE tends to have cheapest rents.

My ecas changed to "Decision Made" today :D No visa yet. Nervous and waiting! I have started to apply for jobs. I have a B. S. in Business Management with lots of management experience. If anyone is aware of a position that might suit me, don't be shy to let me know :D You already know how nice and helpful I am :P Why wouldn't you want to work with me :P :P :P ;)

Hawkeye,

1) at the Poe most likely they will not request proofs of your financial support, in case they do, you must show bank statements indicating you have the minimum aunt of money listed in the webpage for two people as your application was filled and granted for two.

2) you can bring any amount of money in cash up to $10.000,00

3) prepare a spreadsheet Indicating the items you are bringing with you and another list of the items to follow. Showing quantity short description and price. The costs are referential, check in amazon.ca for prices and lower it to the half or 3/4 when the goods are used. In case you failed doing these lists, customs officers will help you to fill them at the airport. Don't worry too much, the worst part was to be accepted, once you pass immigration and you hear welcome to Canada, you are a permanent resident.

Good luck and happy living,

Regards,

Also, I should mention based on my own research......

NE tends to have more basement apartments than other districts overall.

At least, this seems to be the trend based on what I have seen. I browse the MLS and look at homes for a sale all the time (boredom). My husband and I are interested in buying a home with a basement apartment (and we already have a tenant waiting for us) so this is something I keep my eye on. It seems NE has more to offer for basement suites in homes versus other areas.

This tenant is a fellow immigrant that I've been friends with for almost ten years :D (Long before my husband came around!)

Ami,

You could also check in the north-centre (bad called NE) there new communities developing with awesome houses for good prices. They have basements (walk in basements) as well and the landmarks are incredibles. The downside is they are close to the airport but I remember you lived in the states near an airport so It shouldn't be an issue.

I was living in harvest hills community and there are train roads nearby, sometimes at night I heard some loud noises while I was outside the house, the rest is very calm. I could barely hear the airplanes taking off or landing and this community is the closest as I could see in the area.

Hope this can help you

how about rent amount? any idea? tnx

Thank you betterfuture for your response.

However from the post i have started as Less amount Proof of Fund for 2 as PR on Canada for the first time>>>New , reply back wasn't so much positive as they said that the proof of fund(POF) at port of Entry(POE) would be and must be the amount as quoted on the CIC website CAD$13837 whether my wife accompanies with me or not. So i am confused and little nervous as you would mean i would be taking the risk.

Could you clearify more so that i could take down to my head and brain.

At least i have come to know now how i could pack up the things , thank you

Agree with Amikety on the displacement part....whilst doing rental inspections have encountered hordes of applicants queuing up at properties myself... saying that didn't find many basements advertised either during my search... Rents have definitely skyrocketed in these times...supply is less and demand is more for now.
