Sorry, does that mean that I will not have my PR card the next time I enter the country? In my case, I wont have an address in Canada until I actually move there for good (which won’t be the case when I do my soft landing).

If you don't give them an address then yeah you won't have your PR card for the next time you enter the country.
Upon initial arrival, you can either provide a friends's address during your first landing to have the card delivered to them. But you'll still have to find a way to grab the card before arriving in Canada the second time.

If you don't have your card by then, you'll have to apply for a PRTD so that the airline/train/bus can let you board. Then at the Canadian port of entry, just show them your CoPR.

If none of these are possible to you, one last option is to enter Canada via land border by personal means (By car or foot) with the US. No PRTD involved, and just CoPR is enough.

If you're doing a soft landing and you don't have a place to send it, yes. Peacekeeper87 already described the options, but I'll leave the official IRCC response as well.

I think this is most likely the option I’ll be going with (I do have a friend’s address in Canada that I can use but only her (old-aged) parents live there and I’d rather save them any hassle). Re what you said, I was under the impression they take your CoPR form when you do the soft landing. Is that not true?

You should have two copies with you after PPR. One copy is for you to keep and the other is for IRCC to keep. You have to sign both, but then they take their copy and leave you with yours. Your CoPR then serves as evidence of your PR status until you get your PR card, which is why it's so important not to lose it.

The PR card application is started on your behalf when you have your CoPR signed and PR activated. I just linked my PR card application to my CIC account today (about 4 days after landing) without a problem using my UCI and family name. At the moment, the processing time states that it should take about 41 days to receive my first card. I suspect that they may reject my photos since they were taken back in July and therefore not within the 6 month guideline, but we'll see. We are going to take some more photos as backup on Friday, and I'll be leaving them with my SO so that he can send them from within Canada if they are requested.

A little update to this

My PR card was approved on March 22 and sent out on March 23, so exactly 4 weeks after I landed. No photo request, surprisingly! The photos were taken in early July last year, so I thought for sure they'd request new ones. I'm glad, though... my backup photos were really ugly.

Hi @northern sunshine , the photograph used for the PR card is the same as the one that is uploaded while submitting online PR application? Or is it the one that you have it on your COPR? Do we have carry physical photographs while soft landing? Thanks.

They ask for new, updated photos when they send the PPR email, which they attach to their copy of your CoPR and then use for your PR card. No new photos are needed while landing since they already have the ones attached to your CoPR.

Sometimes they reject the photos and ask for a new set if the photos don't meet their specifications. Because of this, I do recommend going to Shoppers Drug Mart or similar and getting a backup set of PR card photos taken while you are there, just in case. That way if they reject your photos, you have a set ready to mail, and the photos are likely to be up to spec since they were done in Canada.
