March 25, 2016!
Hello!

My wife and I are trying to plan preemptively regarding her COPR when she gets it. We're located in the B.C. central interior right now, and were wondering what our B.C. options are for landing. I imagine the Vancouver airport does it, but are there any land border crossings in B.C. that will issue PR? Vancouver is kind of a slog from here (~9 hour drive).

She's from Ohio originally, so we were thinking that if there's nothing reasonably close by here in B.C. that she could go back to Ohio for a visit when her COPR arrives, and then drive up with her family and do her landing at an Ontario border crossing. She'd then fly back to B.C. from Ontario.

What land crossings in Ontario deal with PR? I think I've seen lists of this sort of thing, but I had trouble understanding them, haha.

you are able to land at any border crossing between the US and Canada. you can find a list of all the crossings here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Canada%E2%80%93United_States_border_crossings if you are 9 hours from Vancouver, it doesn't look like there are any land crossings any closer to you than that, so Ontario may be the way to go. :)

Airports only do landing if you are arriving on an international flight. You cannot just show up to land as a PR.

I I know. She'd be entering through a land border anyway.

Do all the land border crossings handle this? Nelway is actually less than an hour from here, but I assumed small land border offices like that wouldn't deal with PR. Is that incorrect?

It would be sooo much easier if we could validate the PR at the Nelway crossing.

As long as it's a fully-fledged port of entry you should be fine. I've heard of people landing at the Point Roberts crossing, which is by far the smallest and least busy.

Point Roberts is the US side of the border. The CBSA office is called the Boundary Bay crossing, but...I wasn't aware that they offered immigration services there.

I love that place!

I meant more the crossing by the place Point Roberts, which would be the Boundary Bay crossing. Sorry for being confusing. I remember reading a couple times online that people have flagpoled there, but I would call the number listed here https://www.ezbordercrossing.com/list-of-border-crossings/washington-state/point-roberts-boundary-bay/#.VsrVsvIrKUk and ask if they have immigration services for landing there (for the OP).

The first time I visited my husband ever when we were dating I went there. I was looking up how to walk through both sides of that port of entry and saw some posts somewhere about people flagpoling, but those posts could have been from years ago and they could have canceled those services since. Walking into Point Roberts was a pain, because the path through the actual crossing was very poorly marked (you have to walk right by an officer and go into the building!). I had stopped to ask the American officer if I was going the right way and that I indeed needed to enter the building. Big mistake. That guy almost made me break down in tears he was so cruel verbally. I won't bother going back there until my husband and I have a car, but it was a gorgeous little place.

If they end up not offering those services anymore, there's always the Peach Arch. I'm kind of hoping the Boundary Bay crossing still offers immigration services, since it's much closer to where I live (Well, "visit") than the Peace Arch.

alright, correction to my earlier comment (i'd called the Windsor border and spoken with a very friendly, but apparently incorrect, border guard) - not all land crossings handle immigration. however, i've just gotten off the phone with CBSA and a just-as-friendly-but-more-knowledgeable agent advised that Nelway does not handle immigration but Kingsgate does, and it's only 1.5 hours from Nelway.. definitely closer than Vancouver, and waaaay closer than Ontario, for you :)
