It all depends on the type of accommodation you are living.
If you live in an apartment (high rise), you will not pay for heating, water (and may be electricity). They are included in your rent. There is no refuse disposal cost as far as I know.
In GTA (Greater Toronto Area), phone, cable and Internet prices depend on your provider and usage.
We use internet a lot in my house and I am paying $67 and basic cable package - $44 (all before 13% tax).
On mobile phone, it is more complicated. There are local, provincial and Canada wide packages. Data, voicemail, caller ID features also increase the price. The bigger companies charged $50+ for Canada wide package. However, there are small companies with cheaper prices. I am paying $22.5 for Canada wide calling, unlimited global text, & all other features.

Transport is a major issue when it comes to cost (my opinion). Depends on the size and composition of your family.
If you have children, a car or van is inevitable. My annual auto insurance costs more than my van.
Don't be moved. I observed that people here are not complaining. You will be fine by God's grace. If you get plenty children, say 10 - 12 children, you don become millionaire be that through child benefit. :P :P

Best wishes
Shalom

Shalom 1 You are firing all cylinders. That is another wonderful one. I like the part that talks about 10-12 kids. I am thinking about seriously, so far the millions will come :P :P :P :P

@EMO,

Spot on. Many make the error thinking the application process is the most important forgetting that stabilizing in a strange land requires plenty of inner strength and preparation. You're not alone in plugging in the numbers.

Pray we all realize our dreams.

Ryes

Just a thought has any guy out there consider the work of a technician!!!!like learning plumbing, electrician, wood work, welder etc? is it something one can learn on a part time basis in addition to say attending conventional school or going to work?

I am actually looking at the possibility of improving my typing skill since most of us pick our keys rather than typing professionally, it may not be a bad idea. Anybody wants to suggest a typing school here in Lagos? Don't tell me about computer typing wizard. I know about that!

Shalom1,
I was with Naija Pikin who incidentally is baba Morufu. Infact i was coming from him when we met yesterday.

Simple arithmetic: Mufu = Naija Pikin

Cost of Nanny varies depending on what you want and the province you live. There is Live-in- care giver that will either stay with you in your house permanently or come in the morning and go in the evening (Payment is hourly and the minimum pay is $10.25/hr), there are day care centres to be paid for directly by you-The one closer to my house charges $277/week per child between 7am and 6pm, there is govt subsidized daycare that you have to pay according to your income- People with low income atimes pay next to nothing. There is also neighborhood care i.e people, mostly women, that are not working but want little income by taking care of kids of busy parents- Their charges are low-between $15 to $40 per child per day . Then there is rub-my-back-i-rub-your-back i.e i take care of your kids when i'm less busy and you take care of mine when you are less busy-(Free-no payment). This is common among friends and people from same tribe.

thanks
Cost of Nanny can be enormous and i will rather suggest that you land and see situation of things for your self before bothering about nanny. Though there is nothing bad in planning ahead.

Other landed people can add to this.

Im an MI3 applicant, I am a plumber and i think it is important for people to start learning this job. There are books for plumbing that you can read at your leisure and you can buy a couple of tools to play around with your plumbing fixtures at home. I remember in my secondary school years, My Father would instruct me not to go for coachings on Mondays and Thursdays, so i could learn Plumbing at my Uncles workshop/tradeschool. It was a shame back then, because my friends couldnt understand why my father would put me to such mess. Weekends i would help in making measurements and quotations e.t.c.
Well though, i went to school, but my plumbing Knowledge and apprenticeship has given me the opportunity to apply for this wonderfull FSW program. Even as a Teacher, i still get outside plumbing jobs cos they really can pay well if you get the right one.
In short, i think this will be a motivation for people who have not cdecided wether to learn a trade or not. Atleast, Mine's to show that the knowledge i have pays for me by giving me the opportunity to partake in this program and also to make some side income here, and i believe it would pay better for us all if we learn something before we get to Canada . Merci
