Congratulations apache and thanks for sharing your interesting experiences of your landing and stay in Vancouver with us. Keep it up!

I have lived in Surrey and White Rock for eleven years. Surrey has the worst, and the very best, neighborhoods in the Metro Vancouver area. Whalley, the district around the Surrey Skytrain Station is not too nice. Nearby you can see vagrants, drug abusers and prostitutes. The city is attempting to clean it up with new apartment buildings, a new university campus, and soon new municipal buildings but it still has some way to go. I try to stay clear of the station late at night but during the day or early evening it is fine - no worries. There are lots of stores and a recreation centre there. People would no use them if the area was dangerous.

Cloverdale, further east is another district of Surrey that is a good place to raise a family. South Surrey has many multi-million dollar ocean front estates as well as some really high-end neighborhoods and the best schools.

@ imbubbles,

Were here @ 90avenue 147st. Yes we are near transportation but we have bought a car on our 2nd day here so we don't commute unless needed. Just renting a basement house here. Are u in Surrey as well? where here? I'm working since 1.5 months ago.

Hi Ining, I landed in 4 days after you. I landed June 12. You said you bought a car, did you buy from a dealer or from a a private person? I am wanting to have a car and i am searching for options. DId you buy it cash or did you have financed by the bank? Any inputs will be appreciated. thank you.

my uncle told us surrey is not a good place. we're in kingsway and clarendon. nice neighborhood. we're not yet very keen on moving into to our own home. our aunt/uncle asked us to stay with them for now. they''ll be helping us find our own place. its a good thing too, not rushing, taking our time. the priorities now is to find employment

for the car, we're contended with commuting. they have a good transpo system. so far, so good . . . :)

Hi, bought it from dealer and cash. Its a second hand and been doing well. Do you have phone number wherein I can ring?

Hi, We landed here in vancouver sept 2nd and moved in our apartment in Burnaby on Sept 6th. So far so good....good location, good school, very convenient, close to shopping and sky train that connects to vancouver as well as Surrey. ( Do I sound like I'm putting an ad for an apartment?)
Well still looking for job....that is the biggest challenge for now. Hope something works out soon !
What about you? Are you planning to move to burnaby? not a bad decision at all !! Good Luck !

Hi All,

I arrive Vancouver in a couple of days and have been arranging viewings for the next few days after my arrival. Would appreciate some leads on good apartments that have month-to-month terms. I figure the closer to the city the better.

Thanks!
