Hi,

I landed PR through PNP in July 2023 in NS and have worked at a company there since then.

Now the same company has offered me a role in NB and I want to contact IRCC to see if it’s okay for me to live and work in NB.

I contacted NS immigration as well but they said that IRCC will take care of this.

How do I contact an immigration officer or get an answer from IRCC to know whether it’s okay for me to move out of NS or not?

Since you landed as a Provincial Nominee in Nova Scotia (NS) and fulfilled your commitment by working in NS since July 2023, you’re now in a better position to move freely within Canada under Section 6 of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms (mobility rights), as long as your original intent to settle in NS was genuine. You don’t need IRCC’s permission to move provinces as a PR.

Thank you, as long as my citizenship process goes through smoothly when I’ll be eligible for it next year, I’m good.

Wondering if they will ask my addresses for the last 5 years or so in the citizenship application and question my presence in NB from June 2025 onwards?
The only reason I have to move out is this job offer within my company, and I haven’t applied elsewhere because they treat me well and I see growth opportunities.

I know there were people who faced issues during their citizenship process as they moved to another province. Make sure to read more about it online, and see if you can raise a webform and ask IRCC about it.

You have freedom of movement as a PR and if you spent around 2 years living in NS after receiving PNP. OP moving shouldn’t be an issue.

Thanks @canuck78 .

Thanks @Seeker007, could you please share what kind of issues did they face? Were they questioned about their presence in another province or denied citizenship altogether?
I did try using the web form, but when I choose the option “contact you about something else”, it doesn’t give me a space to ask my question.
The link I used is below:

Please let me know if you see the space to ask.

Thanks @Seeker007 I have used the web form you provided.
Could you please share, to the best of your knowledge, the issues faced by folks you know who changed their province? It will be helpful to understand if their circumstances were similar to mine.

You only face issues when you move right away when you get PR . In your case you spent enough time and you won't face any consequences when applying for citizenship.

Thanks @Miss bee. Appreciate it.
If at all I’m questioned later, I believe my situation is genuine as to why I moved out.

Nevertheless, I have made an attempt to contact IRCC regarding this, since any word from them would cover my apples.

I am really sorry i do not remember that post. It was last year and somewhere here on the forums, if you do a google search you might get something. All I remember that that person had posted about ircc asking him why he changed the province, i do not know if that person had changed the province right after getting PR or later. Wait for a response from ircc or call them if you can. Best of luck.

IRCC can’t give out advice and the phone line sadly gives out inaccurate information all the time. Would just think logically. You lived and worked in the province associated with your PNP for 2 years. You did settle in the province. You are being offered a transfer to another office from your current employer which happens all the time. You are also moving to another Maritime province not a large city where the majority of newcomers like to settle. IRCC and Canada wants newcomers to settle throughout Canada. IRCC and provinces are more concerned with people getting PNP from smaller provinces (NS in your case) and moving to places like Toronto the next month. Other issue is settling in Quebec when you applied for PR through a non-Quebec program. You are overthinking this and creating an issue that doesn’t exist.
