Seriously though...just thinking. If its about a month now since they received it and they only on April sixth. Mine was officially recieved sometime between the ninteenth and the twenty first of April. I still have a long wait in Missasauga don't I. Especially if they are going backwards!! NMH - I have not forgotten, I will update the listings in the morning.

CIJ - He is doing great, thanks for checking! He has a blood disorder that requires monthly hospitalization for treatment, he went in last week and aside from a minor infection at the injection site, he is fine. I love to bake, it relaxes me. And something about the smell of chocolate is very good for my mood, haha!

SQ - I am contemplating going into the immigration consulting business, but for right now I am just reading. I trained for 5 years to become a chartered accountant, I want to use this particular qualification a little more before I park it for a career change, LOL.

My husband has told me he's been propositioned once or twice by women as soon as they heard "Canadian", and he would have to wave his wedding ring under their noses and tell them there's only one woman he's interested in sponsoring. Men have also asked him to find them Canadian wives, to which he replied that all the Canadian women he knows are taken, that's why he has a Jamaican wife.

I have helped one international couple, but the guy in this case is an American friend I met on Myspace, and the girl is a good friend I met at work. He saw her picture on my FB page, liked her looks and asked me to introduce them. I thought about what I knew about them, their temperaments and so on, and had an idea they might make a good fit, so I agreed. Voila, 2 years later, they are engaged and I am their matron of honour in their wedding coming up in December. But I am not a Cupid for hire.

SQ - according to the official timeline they should be getting to your application around May 31.

I wonder how long it will take after they get to it, for it to be approved and sent to Jamaica? Even though I sent in proof and official HR and Block receipts to show I had done my taxes, they may still ask for my Option C printout but the immigration girl said they may not because they understand its tax season and not everyone has them yet.

I will never ever introduce people...whether its Jamaican to farrin...or anywhere else. I made that mistake once. My former best friend who is no longer in my life....I introduced her to my husbands best friend at our wedding and they hit it off. HUGE mistake!! She was not cut out for the cultural differences and while she thinks the man was difficult, I think he had the patience of a saint. I'm sure any other JA man by the time their relationship ended would have already chased her down with a machete LOL!! Anyways long story short, she treated him like crap and both sides held me accountable on some level. My friend blamed me for a lack of judgment even though the man is one of the best Jamaican man I know outside my husband, faithful and level headed which is a rare commedity anywhere in the world these days. But very old school! He didn't really blame me, but I could tell he wondered where my head was at suggesting her.

SQ - Trust me, I have to get a "feeling" for the couple, or else I won't suggest that they might like each other. I am something of an accidental matchmaker, they were not my first couple, and I don't know what to call it, but I can "feel" if they will work and suggest/encourage the relationship. I was bridesmaid for another couple I helped "set up", back in 2010 just before my husband came to Jamaica for the first time. In this case, she was from the US and he was living in Germany but of American descent. I was friends with both of them, and they both liked each other and said so to me, but not each other, so I encouraged them gently and voila, marriage. LOL.

After you are approved as sponsor, it takes about 10-14 days for the file to be transferred to Kingston. Sponsor evaluation, in most cases, takes 1-2 days. Only in cases like mine (sponsor receiving disability) does it take as long as it did for us (51 days). Many persons have been approved without the Option C. Remember, the point of the Option C is to show that you are capable of fulfilling your responsibility to support your spouse, as agreed in the sponsorship agreement. Don't worry about it, I'm sure it won't present a problem given the information you sent.

It has certainly been a good week this far for KG. It's always nice to see movement on the updates listings, those of us who have just begun waiting can at least know that while the line ahead of us is long, it's moving!

The month of May sees some husbands going home to a Canadian spring! Reemagray, CIJ, make sure you guys tell me how they like the northern summers, haha. Yesterday my husband was outside barbequing and told me that his "friends" the black flies were already coming out.

It's a holiday weekend in both Jamaica and Canada coming up, I hope everyone is making plans for fun and family activities!

Hi everyone,

I haven't checked in for quite some time - it took us a long long LONG time to get all of the paperwork in order, the main reason being that we have 14 month old twin boys, who keep us busy alll day. As soon as they go to bed, it's dinner, chores, and there isn't much else we can bring ourselves to!

The story here is that I'm Canadian, my husband is Scottish, but we live in Grand Cayman, therefore our app is being processed at KGN. We sent the app off to Missisauga on the 17th April and got an email today saying that our file is being sent to Kingston, and that I've been approved as a sponsor. Yay! Our case I believe is pretty straight forward - I moved to the UK (ancestry), met the husband, and we married almost 8 years ago. We've travelled, had fun, had the boys, and now it's time to get back to my family... I've been away from Canada since February 2001!

I have no idea of how long everything will take now, I'm hoping that it's a quick processing time but am used to Caribbean time (which a lot of the time is a very good thing!) so we're just sitting tight. Our hope is to be back in Canada for Christmas, but who knows... I understand there is a long line of people out there who are before us! I haven't updated my stats as I assume the File Transfer date is the date KGN confirm that it's been received? Or would that be the day that Missisauga emailed me to confirm I was approved?

I'm going to try to keep checking in from time to time (boys allowing!), hope everyone is well and fingers crossed for fast processing for all!

Congratulations and jubilations on the boys, and welcome to the KG line. Please stick and stay.

File transfer date is when the approval was confirmed by CPC-M, so that would be today for you. When KG receives the file is a different story. My husband was advised that our file was transferred on May 9, I am still waiting to hear that it has been received. Ordinarily that takes 10-14 days, but KG definitely works on "Caribbean time", as you say.

Your case should be fairly straightforward given the length of time you've been married, so you may find yourselves home in time for Christmas! I'll add you to our updates listing and spreadsheet. If you find yourself with questions, feel free to share, we're here to encourage and keep each other informed.

Meanwhile, may I ask how you are getting ready to re-settle in Canada?

Hi Charlie!

How we're going to re-settle... that's a good question!

We're lucky that as we're not 'permanent residents' here in Cayman we don't have a lot of 'stuff'. There's a great market for used goods here due to the transient nature of a good chunk of the population, so we're intending on selling almost everything we have, cashing in pensions, etc. We're going to go back to the UK (where we lived for 8 years) to visit with the in-laws and gather our 'stuff' from there, and get that shipped over...

All of my family live in BC, so we're planning on staying with my sister for a few days to a week and do some serious rental home hunting... and of course, as the properties in BC aren't fully furnished like they are here and in the UK, buying furniture, etc. My husband has already been in touch with several recruitment agencies in Vancouver (he's an accountant, so I don't see too much trouble in him getting work fairly quickly!) who have told him they'd be interested in speaking to him once his PR is organized.

Umm, I think that's it for now.. he has a 3 month notice period at work, so we'll have a few months to get our plans solidified once we hear the news...
