Hey everyone!!!

Charlie, we have to have sushi date when you get here... if your hubby wants to cook Jamaican food for hubby I am sure he will be happy about that... poor hubby doesn't really cook (so he says) but I think he can manage pretty good.... He says he doesn't want me to cook any canadian food for him wow... I am not the type to eat the same thing everyday... hubby loves mackerel, dumplin and veggies or chicken durmpling and veggies... I love to have a wide variety.... looks like this may get pretty interesting lol ;D ;D

Irving... if you ever come in my area let me know we can have a sushi date... btw are you interested to come to rainforest cafe in the yorkdale mall to have dinner on june 20 with some members of the forum.. by the way the invitation is out there for anybody that is interested to join us... also things are pretty slow right now... i am beat tired... I need to rest up tomorrow or i should say today... how are things with you??

Here Randy'sgirl and irving have at er.....

1 half cups brown sugar/or white suga difference here is the colour of the bun ....White suga well more clear brown sugar more dark ...
3 cups flour
2 teaspoon of baking powder
1 cup stout (preferably Dragon Stout or any beer if you dont have dragon)
1 tablespoon of honey
1 cup mixed fruits (e.g.raisins, mixed peel, maraschino cherries,)
1 1/2 tablespoon melted butter or margarine
2 eggs
1 teaspoon mixed spice (or 1/2 tsp nutmeg and 1/2 tsp cinnamon)
1 tablespoon of vanillia



Heat the beer, sugar, butter, honey and spices over a low heat, stir it until ingredients are dissolved in beer.

Pour in the mixing bowl and add eggs. Mix it up

Sift flour and baking powder. Add gradually to mixing bowl.

Add fruit and mix well. Make sure that the fruits is 1 cup combined ... ;D

Bake in a greased and floured loaf pan (bread pan) at 350 for 1 hour.

What i do typically is add a few cherries on top of the bun at the end ...

As most ovens vary keep and eye on the bun....it may require likkle less time or likkle more time depending on the oven yuh see it .. ;D

Oh nae nae ....I seen that about hubby ...hope he is okay ...OMG ....very scary i couldnt imagine your worry that night ....

Morning Everyone....back on the workflow today,......only one day off for me....at least I was lucky if it was for good Friday I would not even get a day off....Cant wait until I can stop this crazy 7 day a week work thing!!!

Anyways, hats off to you all who enjoy Sushi!!!! I am not one who likes sushi at all....I hear its very nice but I just cant bring myself to trying it.

Irving...yes girl I am excited and no have not started to clean the closets or drawers yet. I am waiting for when he calls me to say "Babz I have the PP back" then I will begin to frantically start organizing!!!!!lol

recipe sounds good LCW... only tip I could add to that is to make sure that the beer mixture is cooled before adding the egg otherwise the egg will start to cook and you dont want that

the weather is turning out to be quite nice today, warm and sunny.....I can't wait for Summer!! I'm so done with Winter, cold, snow, rain...it's depressing

oh lcw you are a God send!!! I'm dying for bun and cheese. They sell spice bread at the grocery store near me, I bought some today cause it's close to the flavour of the bun in JA. Thanks for posting the recipe! I'm a good cook but a lousy baker lol so I'm not sure I can make it turn out right but may give it a whirl sometime. Or I can make hubby do it he loves to cook and I'm sure he can manage that recipe.

lonely wife - oh wow! maybe hubby will change his mind once he gets here about you cooking anything other than Jamaican food. At first my hubby cooked it quite a bit but I'm like you, I have to eat a variety of things...can't do the same things over and over and hubby is quite adventurous and will try anything. He is enjoying trying new things and especially loves anything barbecued! At first he didn't understand why we bbq in the cold weather but after his first meal, he wanted to do nothing but bbq lol

OMG all this talk about food is making me hungry lol

lady posh - enjoy your day at work, don't work too hard girl!! looks like you and I will be joining the fellas for dinner while the ladies go out for sushi it's definitely not my thing either

to anyone else I missed, and those of you that have not yet been reunited with your spouse, I know the holidays are tough and lonely without your spouse by your side, my thoughts and prayers go out to you this weekend. Keep your chin up, God willing you won't have to be alone much longer!

Tsk, lonely_wife, my hubby will take your hubby under his wing and get him sorted on the food thing. He loves trying new things when it comes to food, and he's even got me eating Jamaican foods I don't normally like!

Nae, so glad the weather is warming up, was afraid I'd have to FedEx you some sunshine, LOL. Bbq is definitely good food. Hubby is throwing a few things on the grill today, cold weather or not, he has missed doing that.

I am doing housework today, defrosting the fridge and cleaning the stove and all that good stuff.

CharlieD10....Tee hee hee....reading your bit about defrosting the fridge gave me a bit of a giggle. I HATE HATE HATE HATE having to always do that here and I figured I had a faulty fridge because I almost never had to ever do that back in Canada and I feel like I'm constantly having to do that here. The fridge and I have a very hateful relationship!!! Glad to know I'm not alone!!

LOL SmoothiesQ. I don't mind because it means that it works. I used to have a fridge that couldn't keep anything cold, and I had to give up things like fresh milk and buying meats in bulk.

hope everyone's easter was a lovely one... it was my son's birthday on Saturday, so it was a busy one around here!

I noticed someone posted on the other board that the health card in Ontario is a 90 day after application thing, which is completely untrue... it's 90 days residency and you must prove date of residency (PR card or the landing paper works, status of residence (something official with name and address on it) and identification (passport works fine here)

no harm in applying before the 90 days, but if you go on day 90 and apply you will be covered... my husband did this without issue

np lonelywife my hubby used his drivers license ppt and pr card.... i know it becomes a bit dicier if you don't have the drivers licence yet, apparently someone's hubby had issues... they can be a tad nasty at some of those Ontario Health offices... i once had someone take my coverage away and i had to do the whole "90 day thing" argh! They are not good!

So it is actually a lot easier to do after 90 days of residency since you have a better chance to gather and produce the documentation that you are required to produce...
