Omg yes, we had to pay school fees at NCB in spalding.. My gawd i didn't think it was possible to fit so many people in such a tiny space and not have reproduction happen... just plain nasty!

So glad to be back in canada where yes, I complain that I can't set up an RESP (college fund) online... It seems to be one of the only things to CANT do... And I don't even bank on my laptop anymore since thanks to Scotia and apple, "Theres an app for that"! :)

I do miss the island right now too, but I think my relief at having luxuries like 24 hour shopping for all necessities, free medical, artichoke and asiago cheese dip and running water is a little stronger still... The "novelty" will wear off I'm sure!

Welcome and welcome back and greetings to all, Im off to bed.. G'luck tomorrow
Nae!

As we always write info in every post... your statement is a little confusing and maybe a little offensing to certain people as I got it in the way that maybe you were not interested to hearing about other things then immigration but maybe i am wrong... anyways no hard feelings maybe i just misunderstood....

Lonely.... Don't feed the trolls :)

Hey... For those of you who have completed the process what are a few things you or your significant other had to learn the hard way when they got to Canada? Or things that you/they were amazed at?

I've already shared (and will reiterate) get the chicken pox vaccination... The disease isn't as prevalent on the island and many Jamaicans haven't had it... Within 6m of being here my hubby got it (and gave it to our then 12m old).. Grown men with the chicken plague are not fun!!!!

One thing my hubby was a bit awed with was self serve gas.. He had to be shown how :). He thought he'd seen it all when he lived in the UK but he didn't drive over there and was rarely in a car, so it never really clued in that what he saw in the movies was real :)

The snow didn't phase him (although we had to go up to my moms to really see it)... He was in UK a couple years back when they had that big storm.... Hes not liking the cold but doesn't complain too much so far...

That's the big ones I can think of... Since he's lived overseas he's probably a little boring :) i remember when he first reached London he got an oyster card and got lost a lot... Now he he has an SUV and a GPS :)

I'm up early, on the GO and bored! Anyone else want to share?

Good morning folks :)

Big morning for Nae and hubby...Nae is on a bus across Jamaica...always an interesting experience! :p

Yeah...please don't feed the trolls.

Chelley, amazing how human beings can adapt, isn't it? I cannot wait to see what changes I will have to make when I live with hubby, LOL. I know he made many living with me in Kingston, and some things he found incomprehensible because of the sheer inefficiency with which they were done in Jamaica, LOL.

Well, KG...another one down, more to go. NEXT!!!

yes Charlie, while i love it, jamaica baffles me in some ways still (not sure if that's because i've lived there or in spite of it?)...

Is Nae taking knutsford? i meant to ask her, but never got around to it... I've taken Knutsford before and it's easy and actually pretty efficient  LOL enjoyed the experience...

hopefully he'll take her to devon house for some iscream before or after the drop off... whenever we had to go to the kgn office that was our routine :) that and japanese at soverign center (which is a bit more out of the way if you're not driving)... i used to love going to town because things were much more "cultured" then in rural clarendon... sad eh? i am a big city gal for tru tho!

Chelley - I am not sure they are on Knutsford, I just texted them to make sure their journey was going well and they said they were in St. Catherine, so they might be on the early Knutsford, or they might have taken a regular bus which would go through Ochie and on to Kingston.

Hmm, you just gave me an idea what to do! Devon House is not far from the embassy, and I have not had my monthly Devon House treat yet this month! Of course, I normally have it later on in the month, but any excuse to go there is a good one for me ;) I will see if they want to head over there.

About the only redeeming features Kingston has for me are Devon House and East Japanese Restaurant at Marketplace. I'm not a big city girl, but working in hotels did spoil me on liking international cuisines. Hubby of course loves it here, because he is city born and bred.

Jamaica baffles me and I have lived here 98% of my life, don't feel bad, LOL.

awww nice if you get to meet up with them... i know nae in person (went to highschool together and actually lived on the same street in the same block... she was across the street and about 8-10 houses down from me if i remember correctly (small word eh?)), great gal...

question that maybe someone on the island can help me out with... does anyone know the name of the danish they serve in burger king (cinammon one)... it's an american brand and i need to know to have a store up here order it for me (stupid sugar addiction)... i saw it up here before in the store, but it was gone when i checked yesterday and they had no idea what i was talking about, but said if they had it before and i know the name, they can most likely get it again...

soooo... anyone? lol

Very small world...just last night come to find out another forum member lives near my husband, over in Sudbury, and another I think grew up in the town where he lives!

I have not been in BK in a while, LOL. I usually get the Hershey's Pie when my sweet tooth comes over me while there.

Good morning forum family and welcome once again to our new members. It is good to see the comradarie amongst everyone (excluding the trolls). You have come to the right place
Chelley, mrs has adjusted much better than I ever thought she would, goes outside everyday to get climatized to the weather. Amazed at the crunch of the snow beneath her feet, foot prints in the snow. No snow angels yet but soon likely. How easy it is the make a snowball out of loose snow, she has a wicked arm. How canada is the opposite of JA in that it is warm inside and cold outside. How I get a kick out of hockey and can swear like a madman when my team screws up. She has taken a liking to it. She was jumping up and down during the first 2 periods last night when CA was up 3-0 against the Russians for the Worlds Cup, was as ticked as I was when we gave the game away in the last period. Although a silver she felt we gave the gold away and was right. She has picked it up a way too quickly.
Can't believe how I pay for everything everywhere with debit, was suprised as well that we have no one to pump our gas and can pay right at the pump without going inside
Loves Tim Hortons, and subway. Amazed that you can put anything you want on your sandwhich. How warm the furnace keeps the house without adding wood, just move the little dial. Loves hot water right out of the tap, when the water gets cool in the bath, just add some hot. Hasn't adjusted to the dishwasher yet, takes everything out and washes them by hand, know they're clean that way. Loves the dryer, no need to watch the weather and dash home to take clothes off the line if it looks like rain. Can't believe the roads, says more potholes driving from Mandeville to spur tree than our 1,200 km drive through bc. How big my truck is and wonders why everyone here drives a truck, especially when I have to make 20 back and forths to get out a parking lot. Can't believe it doesn't get daylight until 9am
She misses her family and friends but talks to them daily, misses the warmth outside but not the sun. Misses driving, her puppy, and her laptop. It crashed when we got here. Misses zingers from kfc, the Big Crunch just aren't the same.
Anyway, sorry, didn't mean to make such a long post but thought I'd share

OK KG, a couple for soanx and missin
NEXT 2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
