Hello Everyone. I'm planning to send in my application next week and was deciding on inland up until now. I've been looking at the processing time for outland and it seems definitely shorter. I have a few questions:
1. Would I be correct in saying that the current processing time through the kingston office is like 11 months now?
2.I am originally from the Bahamas and I live in Canada with my common law who's a permanent resident. If I'm applying outland it will be processed through Kingston correct?
3. I'm also wondering what seems to be the likelyhood of getting interviewed as I have to consider the additional cost of both of us flying to Jamaica. 4. 4.Is there an AIP phase and getting an open work permit with applying outland?

Thank you in advance
Are you a citizen of Bahamas or Jamaica. What kind of passport do you have (from which country?). The average time for outland is approx 10/11 months lately. We wouldnt be able to tell if you will get an interview or not but you would be notified well in advance. Not too sure on the AIP situation. Sorry, maybe someone else has more info?

Guys plz help me out. im in Mississauga, Canada, ready to apply for my PR-Family Class. ive decided to do it as out canada versus in canada, as i already have a work permit lasting until 2017 but i want to be able to travel to jamaica while its being processed plus the time is shorter. How do i send in the application from Canada with it not being confused as applying in Canada.

I think as long as you fill out the outland forms and mail it to the correct address for outland applications and clearly label outland on the envelope then you should be fine! :)

Question guys!!
Is there any similar form(s) in the Outland Spousal Sponsorship that both Sponsor and Principal Applicant are to fill out?

Some of the forms ask similar questions, but there is no identical form that needs to be filled out by both the sponsor and the principal applicant. Each has their own separate set of forms :)

Good morning, and welcome! :)

1. Yes, 10-12 months seems to be about average right now for Kingston. As far as I know most of the applicants on here have been from Jamaica though, not the Bahamas so I'm not sure if your timeline will be same or not but hopefully it should still be in that range!

2. Yes, Kingston seems to do the processing for the Bahamas

3. If you send in a complete and thorough application with lots of proof of your relationship, and there has not been any previous sponsorships, denied or overstayed visas, or major red flags then you probably won't have to worry about going to Jamaica for an interview. Also keep in mind that if you are not married to your sponsor then you will need to send in a lot of proof of the two of you living together in a marriage like relationship, as they tend to be a bit harder on common law applications than they are on spousal ones. Every case is different and the possibility is always there for an interview, but the majority of people seem to have them waived. If you check out the spreadsheet link under ShortyP's signature you can take a look at the processing times over the last few years and you can see how many have had interviews :)

4. I don't think so. I believe those are both only relevant for inland applications. If you apply outland you can still be living and working in Canada if you have current visas to do so, but if those visas expire before your application has been approved and finalized you would have to go back to the Bahamas to wait out the rest of the process.

Best of luck, and keep us posted! :D

Congrats to Nursewife and Dollface on getting your passports back!! This nightmare is finally over for you both, now all that's left is to book those flights!! :D Can't wait to hear your landing stories :-*

And best of luck to Sara on your husband's interview AND the arrival of your little one!! Your family will all be together and complete very soon!! <3

How well in advance are those notified of an interview?

Ah thank you so much for the information! I think I may end up doing inland then. The wait time for inland is only about 17 months right now for AIP(worst case) which is only about half a year difference from applying outland through Kingston it seems. Also, My common law partner has been sponsored by her ex to come to canada in the past, and next week will be the 5th year anniversary of her landing (which is why I am applying next week) - so we very might likely get an interview. Flights from Canada to Jamaica isn't cheap especially for only one of us working while in Canada (I'm on a visitor's permit here). Also, I get to work while in waiting if I apply inland. Decisions Decisions!

Hello and welcome,

Another thing to keep in mind is if you possibly get denied thru an Inland application, you cannot appeal.

I would apply Outland, you can stay in Canada and wait as you have a visitors visa.

Also since your in a common law relationship and your partner was sponsored previously, you're right, there definitely may be a higher chance of a interview.

As MsMcLaughlin mentioned, its much harder to prove a common-law relationship, then being married. It's much more harder to deny someone that's married then in a common-law relationship. You'll need a lot of proof and will be more scrutinized.

Hi there

Just a bit confused maybe you can clarify
You said your originally from Bahamas (were you born there) because if so your case would be processing through POS (port of Spain not Jamaica ???

Not sure if your from Jamaica or Bahamas (am assuming you are the applicant, the sponsored person ???)

Kingston VO is strictly for citizens and residents of Jamaica and the other Caribbean countries/islands are all process through Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago-

It looks like according to the website for the Kingston VO, they process applications for Bahamas, Cayman Islands, Jamaica and Turks and Caicos Islands, and POS covers basically all the other Caribbean countries?? However I know that in the past when Kingston had a backlog they sent some files over to POS to help get them processed

Oh ok well in that case it make sense.

That's why I love this forum....,,there's always someone there to give you the correct answer lol (better than the CIC call centre )

Thanks MrsMcLaughlin
And good luck jailbird2569 !!

Thanks everyone! All the best to you as well! I will keep you updated about how the interview goes, I am praying they keep his passport and issue to the visa!
