If we apply outland, how long will it take? We are having a baby in March and I can't have him leave me for long for this... because I don't want him to miss out on our baby and he needs to be working so that we can afford our bills while I'm on Mat leave with reduced pay.

There's no way to tell for sure, but it should take significantly less time than applying inland. I think right now it's taking between 10-12 months for most standard cases to get through. If you take a look at the spreadsheet under ShortyP's signature you can get an idea of how long it's been taking lately.

And I don't know too much about applying common law, other than that it's harder to get approved and they need more proof than a spousal sponsorship. And unfortunately CIC doesn't really seem to care much if there are children involved or not, so having a baby together won't really impact their decision or your processing time, whether it's inland or outland.

I agree. My husband and I have 2 children together (both he wasnt able to attend the births for, they refused TRV visa as they said he wouldnt return) and I have 3 from a previous marriage. 5 total. Plus a niece that I take care of. Our youngest has had 2 surgeries (1 at 5 months old and one at 6 months old) and they didnt care at all about that.
Does your hubby have a TRV visa?

I still say that applying outland and doing a spousal sponsorship is much more quicker and less stressful. Unfortunately having a baby will not speed up the process at all as MsMcLaughlin said. But giving your situation you'll probably take the inland way, either way is no wrong way though. But going outland will likely have your whole family reunited quicker. If you do apply inland and get denied, you cannot appeal the decision and will have to do an outland application anyway, taking away more time from your family reunification. There are so many people that on this site that will say ,applying outland is the way to go.

I found a user on here http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/profiles/omariewk1-u497108.html

Maybe he could give you some insight? I'd give him a PM.

He's Jamaica and applied inland August 2014 and is still waiting. He's married and not in a common law relationship.

It's a tough decision, but whatever way you go best of luck to you and your family ;D

Nope. Mine still showing Oct 14, active.
DHL says passports usually get returned in 21 business days.

That's crazy long, doesn't your husband live close to Kingston?
My husband does, so it's literally going to take this long?

Thank you everyone.

My fiancé can't really leave because we own a company together and it's doing really well and it would be really stupid for him to leave now. He needs to run the company. Plus we are having a baby and I need him here.

I will just wait till we are married in July and apply then since common law seems so much more difficult.
