Hey Maddants, some people have preferred to take the proactive approach and do medicals before they ask. However there is a new law that states that they can ask for an extension if your file will be completed very soon.. Also, someone said that Kingston doesn't like for you to redo medicals before they ask.. But hey, it's all up to you. My Hubby's will be up in December to but he rather wait in case they don't need it than to spend the extra money and didn't have to.

because i've seen cases where the extension takes longer than 3 months, is it ok to advise them that you rather just do the medical over than wait for an extension. Or they force the applicant to wait until the extension is approved?

We chose to do ours unprompted by Kingston for a couple of reasons... first of I have witnessed it adding 8-9 weeks to your time to redo meds (4 weeks to receive the request, 1 week to complete, 3-4 weeks for PPR after med completion). Another reason was like tintin pointed out, I was not interested in the medical extension as the timelines exposed thus far are not better....
Lastly, I was preparing to go to JA within 2 months of the first med expiring and therefore was hoping that if I was proactive, my husband could receive PPR before I went down, therefore bringing him home with me. It was wishful thinking but I didn't want to NOT try.

The risks are that you spend the extra money sooner than later and also if we ever have to wait longer than the 15 months (knock on wood) my husband would have to do yet a 3rd medical. One more risk is that I pissed of the IO by not waiting ....

Well crazy morning here... work is bizay! Check in later!

Up until I joined this forum I had not heard anything about the RCMP fingerprints. Not that this is an issue, but what is this all about. Does everyone have to have them done or is it just by request? How did you know the timeline in which they sent the prints? Also, I imagine that they do the prints in JA then have to send them to Canada then back to JA? A bit confusing. My husband was fingerprinted when he did the police check....is this what everyone is talking about?

HAHAHAHAHHAHAHA...

Canuck, those are good ones

Quick question... You said the RCMP prints are needed when people has "spend" time in Canada. My husband has a TRV and visits every 3 months or so ... does this qualify as "spending" time in Canada??

The guide specifies that you are not required to submit it with your application if he has been in Canada less than 6 months. However, Kingston holds the right to request it if they choose to regardless of amount of time spent in Canada.

Hi RL.
My husband lived in Canada from 2006-2011. He was denied refugee and sent back to Jamaica September 2011. Because he lived in Canada way over 6 months, he is required to do fingerprints in order to return to Canada. So the embassy sent him the request to complete his prints at a police station in Kingston, JA, he then brought them to the embassy in Kingston and the prints were mailed to the RCMP in Ottawa. They were mailed out to Canada in April 2012. They were just completed and mailed back to Jamaica on October 26, 2012. So because he lived her over 6 months, he is required to complete prints to ensure he has no criminal charges etc.
