So nice to see some shorter timelines, although I dont want to get my hopes up! Has anyone applied successfully to apply for a tourist visa after passing stage 1? Has anyone here had an immigration service assist them?

Hi Randysgirl, we chose to do it ourselves the application can seem quiet daunting at first glance, but its straight forward enough to attack on your own if you take your time, I think thats what most people on here did too.
and quiet a few people have successfully come through the process ok without going through a firm.

Hubby and I thought it best to put the money for a lawyer, towards the application processing fees.
However, it is up to you in the end, if you feel more comfortable getting a lawyer etc to assist you.

hi everyone...im georgee...new to this forum and just headed to jamaica on new years eve to start the process of bringing my true love home...whatta rollercoaster to come!!! i believe that i can overcome these papers without hiring a professional...am i wrong??? i believe my case to be fairly straight forward the only glitch being that we need to apply under the conjugal partner section as i have proof that i cannot get a divorce...do you lovely ladies have any advice for a newbie...besides "run now"...lol???

randysgirl - my hubby applied for a tourist visa before we got married and was denied. It is not uncommon to be denied, and I think most people here have not had any luck with that either. You can certainly try but you will have to come up with some pretty convincing evidence that your hubby has ties to his community and will return.

georgee - I'm heading to JA on new year's eve too maybe we'll be on the same flight....I'm flying Westjet. Sorry, I don't know anything about the conjugal application.

Thank you all for your welcomes...This whole process has been so hard for me. I have been to jamaica 5 times in a year and a half to see my Boo, I just got back in October. My husband and I got married in Feb. 2010 but I did not put the application in until July 2010. He just received the AOR Friday Nov. 27, 2010 but it was dated Nov. 10, 2010.

I have been on this forum for the past 4 weeks and found it so helpful so I thought I would become a member!

I only paid the application fee of $550, can someone tell me when they will ask for the $490. Will it be soon since we have received the AOR?

Welcome newcomers...

Ladypooh, they will ask when they are ready to issue the visa, but it's better to pay it upfront as soon as you can... This will keep them from asking which can add weeks or even months to the processing time...

Thanks ladies for the super warm reception! Its helps to know that the list contains some reunited families and others making progress in the uphill battle...so if u all dont mind im just gonna let it out and see what u think...so a long time ago (2001) i was going to cuba approx 4-8 times a year for business(have stamped passport) and met a man the first time i went...long story short we were married in 2004...when i returned 6 weeks later i found he was living with a woman and i was heartbroken....thought i knew him... i returned to canada never to see him or hear him again...i swore off men for the longest time and had to listen to a buncha "i-told-you so's" and very mean things from people who i thought cared....anyways i had my depression and some serious man hating times and felt relieved to never have to deal with canada immigration....lmao well ffwd 2007 when a friend puts me on the phone with howie in kgn & somehow he ended up breaking down the walls and stole my heart...amazing!!! however being married to the cuban taught me several lessons including do your homework and save the evidence...so now that we are a few years into our relationship and we have decent paper trail of western union reciepts, phone bills, letters, photos, trips and all that we are gonna move it to the next level and attempt applying as conjugal partners...due to the fact that i do not meet the divorce reqs in alberta as i cannot contact him without going there and risking my safety...lawyers and legal aid have advised me that it will be a very difficult process to obtain this divorce if possible at all..notice that on the imm papers everything is extra for cuba...so now coming up to 2011...wondering how much longer this marriage will be there to haunt me and rob me of my babymakin years??? howie has been an angel throughout our whole friendship and if he wasnt so patient and strong i would not even attempt to do these papers...but i know that we need to be together ...i think sometimes i will have a consultant do the papers and if it gets sticky lawyer up from there??? so there it is... maybe not so straight forward after all but definitely worth the hassle...i appreciate you guys listening to my madness ;D theres probably more to come lol

nice to meet u all...nae-nae im in calgary...suki i notice u are too..gonna buy my flights on friday...hopefully westjet but i think it stops in edmonton...looked at too many flights today! thanks charlie d for the sage advice! wondering also how you guys roll when you are there? where do you stay? anyone have ideas for good accomodation that hopefully saves me from driving the renta car from mobay? i think i lost 8/9 cat lives the last time on the jamaican roads... ..lol anyways take care all...godspeed to all the families waiting for their day! and thanks again for the warm welcome!

lady, you can pay the fee at anytime, as Chelley said it's better to pay it before they ask for it and that way you won't get some extra wait time added on because of that. As far as I know you just pay it and add your B# on it when you send it off?? Can someone confirm that please, I had sent everything at once so not sure how to proceed once half of the pmt is already made! good luck and I hope you get a speedy process!

Can someone tell me why we have received the AOR but Ecas site has not yet been updated?
