Hey everyone,
I'm just married and have my application ready to go, with the exception of my marriage certificate (it hasn't come from kingston yet).

I am SO impatient and just want to get my application in the queue so at least my sponsorship eligibility can be assessed.I have a copy of my brides receipt (copy of the register) and wedding photos in the application, should I wait to get the certificate? or just put the application in and send it to them later when it comes?

Are you applying outland? Is hubby there? Did you marry in Kingston?
I would definitely wait for that as it may be needed for part of sponsorship approval.

wow Paula, That was acutually VERYYY helpful thank you so much for that link it definitely gives me a start. i'm just takin in everyones information and reading the cic website and about to get really started on monday with everything. gonna print out all these things at work where it's free. but yeah i believe i'm just going to do it myself without representation because everywhere i call it's thousands of dollars and i got bill to ain't nobody have that type of money chilling in the bank. well if you do kudos but i certainly dont lol :p

i have another question tho as i will many many more im sure lol. um i was just wondering how does CIC normally corresponds with you is it by mail, phone, e-mail? because i live with family at the moment (Sisters) and when the mail comes in the morning i'm at work, and im not really ready to have them in my business yet so id rather if they corresdond with my by phone or e-mail..... so yeah how does CIC normally get in contact with you throughout all the stages of this process?
they have always corresponded with me via email. its been over a year since I looked through the forms but if I remember correctly I think there is somewhere on the form that says to list your email and it says that correspondence will go there.. For my husband we didn't list a email but the only correspondence he received was the Passpory Request, this I didn't receive a copy of which I thought I would have because I did fill out the notice of representation form ...I'm sure with a lot of great tips from people you will do just fine on your own ... And whatever you do don't allow people to make you feel discouraged by telling you that your summiting to much evidence to document your relationship because there is no right amount to summit and no wrong amount .. I know I have heard of several people getting requests for more info and even getting interviewed when they are not specific and leave a lot of questions that the VO may have unanswered ... you will not get a application returned to you for including to much ..if you use whatsapp it's great because you can actually email the conversation to yourself and print it all out .. I included our whole chat history personally I felt and was also told by my family friend/lawyer that actually excluding pages could raise suspicion .. I didn't sugar coat anything even the disagreements we had were printed and sent in because in all reality the majority of married couples do argue from time to time and with this immigration process and the stress we have they would expect it would cause tension at times .. I organized my application the same way as the application was organized in the link I posted and it seemed to have some good for me because our application was processed fairly quickly . When the apocation is organized it saves the VO a lot of time because they don't have to be going through hundreds of papers to find every document they need ...

Thanks Shorty and Chucky i will definitely include my e-mail address.

Also, do you guys recommend that my husband do the medical and police check before we submit the application or should we wait for CIC to provide those directions. also, is it only the person being sponsored that completes the medial or do i have to complete these things as well? :-X
yes I would recommend you do them at the same time your application gets sent to Mississauga. When they are not done and included in your application at the same time you risk that the medical and PC don't get put with your file as soon as you send it in and it can in fact add delays to your process .. I did mine upfront and the medical was set to expire aprox 2 weeks before we received PPR and when I emailed to ask if he should redo the medical they gave me a year extension on the medical , making it valid for 2 years . Also my husbands Police check was expired aprox 2 weeks before they issued his PPR and he didn't have to redo his . I was told he couldn't land if his PC wasn't valid but this isn't true . The medical must be valid but the majority of the time as long as it is summited up front they will give you a extension .. My husband got his passport back this week from DHL and he has to leave Jamaica before the medical expires which isn't until August 2016..

Hi Paula, just updating the spreadsheet...
Can you confirm with me the following dates....
PPR was August 21?
What date did you or hubby send it in?
What date was it returned?

Thank you for helping us keep track on the process.

Hey lovely people!

Just checking in to say hello and praying movement in KGN and POS (for those who are being processed in Trinidad).

Hubby is settling in well, he's been in Canada for 3 months now (as of yesterday). We received his PR Card and are now in process of applying for his US Visa to visit both of our families there at some point this year / early next year.

Like many others before me spoke about, there are definitely challenges in the big move because Canada is vastly different than Jamaica but with GOD all things are possible. About a week before my husband landed, I began sending out resumes on his behalf and he had quite a few interviews lined up for the second week that he was in Canada. On day 13 he got a job and began first thing Monday morning. I think this helped tremendously in his transition as he was now making his own money and it forced him to become independent. On the weekend we took the bus...familiarized him with the stops etc. and how to get back home from work.It worked out awesomely because hubby's workplace is actually on my way to work so we drive together in the morning and he comes home via transit in the evening as he finished before me.

Church and community are huge for my husband....thankfully I have a great church family who welcomed him with open arms. He's now joined me on the praise team (my man can SAAAAANGGG! LOL) and has gained many friends in our church family. There are times when I can visibly see that he is down because he remembers home and I try hard to be there for him and not take it personally. I have to remember that he is only human..and he will definitely miss home, there is no place like home (shoot....i'm born in Canada and i still miss Jamaica like it's home)..all I can do is be supportive at all times and allow him to have these moments without feeling guilty.

As Fall is around the corner and winter is surely going to show it's face soon...I'm anxious to see his reactions to some firsts (first snowfall, first time on ice, first time layering up to the wazzoo)..I'll be back to share more, i'm sure!

In any case, thank you JamFam for always being here and answering so many of my questions, being a shoulder during frustrating times..and simply being AWESOME! To people who are still going through the process, hang in there and know that we support you and your spouse and your time is just around the corner!

much love <3

Great news Paula!
What kinds of offences are criminally inadmissable? (curious)
Are spouses denied because of a weed smoking charge? Or does it have to be a major offense that requires jail time?
I know this response is late but if the sponsor (in canada) had a criminal record they can still sponsor as long as it is not a charge that Carries a sentence of 10 or more years in prison , any sexual offence, or a offence of violence towards a family member ... Now if the person you are trying to sponsor has a criminal record even if it is just a minor charge such as smoking marijuana then I believe yes they can be denied entry into canada . Even a simple DUI or impaired driving charge can make you inadmissible ... With this being said if a certain amount of time has passed , I believe 5 years then you could be deemed rehabilitated and be allowed to enter .. Now this isn't in every case as my husbands friend just got his approved and he had a possession of marijuana charge (2 grams) but they did have to hire a lawyer because initially it was refused and they appealed it and won at a appeal .. Had they have gotten a lawyer at first maybe they would have been ok because it could have been explained in more detail ... I would sugguest anyone who is trying to get PR status in Canada with a criminal record should get the advice from a lawyer.... with all of the laws changing around marijuana and it even being legalized in many places around the world it's definitely something that can be argued with the right legal representation ... Something like this doesn't really make your application standard so in this case I would say speak to a lawyer and Have them help , it's gonna cost money but may save time and stress ... Good luck

Well that is partially true, but not entirely correct. You have to apply for "rehabilitation", not just wait it out for 5 years, and there are certain stipulations to the above information. A DUI is not considered a "simple" charge in Canada and can make you inadmissible for life. Offences are categorized by summary and indictable offences. While you MAY be admissible after doing a serious crime, its very hard. Usually if you have been convicted of a crime that incurs jail time of 12+ months you will not be admissible without being deemed "rehabilitated". You have to apply to CIC for that, not just explain it on your application form. See more here:

Good morning everyone. Hubby pointed out to me this morning that his ecas has finally changed to " in process". We are praying for a productive week with all our files! P.S. hubby is a silent a reader on this thread too shy to say hello lol. Wondering what your thoughts are after finally getting "in process" after so long? We got RPRF in July the bring forward 60 days would have been last week. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Have a great day everyone.
