Hey lovely people!
Just checking in to say hello and praying movement in KGN and POS (for those who are being processed in Trinidad).
Hubby is settling in well, he's been in Canada for 3 months now (as of yesterday). We received his PR Card and are now in process of applying for his US Visa to visit both of our families there at some point this year / early next year.
Like many others before me spoke about, there are definitely challenges in the big move because Canada is vastly different than Jamaica but with GOD all things are possible. About a week before my husband landed, I began sending out resumes on his behalf and he had quite a few interviews lined up for the second week that he was in Canada. On day 13 he got a job and began first thing Monday morning. I think this helped tremendously in his transition as he was now making his own money and it forced him to become independent. On the weekend we took the bus...familiarized him with the stops etc. and how to get back home from work.It worked out awesomely because hubby's workplace is actually on my way to work so we drive together in the morning and he comes home via transit in the evening as he finished before me.
Church and community are huge for my husband....thankfully I have a great church family who welcomed him with open arms. He's now joined me on the praise team (my man can SAAAAANGGG! LOL) and has gained many friends in our church family. There are times when I can visibly see that he is down because he remembers home and I try hard to be there for him and not take it personally. I have to remember that he is only human..and he will definitely miss home, there is no place like home (shoot....i'm born in Canada and i still miss Jamaica like it's home)..all I can do is be supportive at all times and allow him to have these moments without feeling guilty.
As Fall is around the corner and winter is surely going to show it's face soon...I'm anxious to see his reactions to some firsts (first snowfall, first time on ice, first time layering up to the wazzoo)..I'll be back to share more, i'm sure!
In any case, thank you JamFam for always being here and answering so many of my questions, being a shoulder during frustrating times..and simply being AWESOME! To people who are still going through the process, hang in there and know that we support you and your spouse and your time is just around the corner!
much love <3
