good morning everyone!

thanks everyone for the info on tax etc. I was wondering what I was supposed to do but have been so busy doing the Imm apps and working like a dog that I didn't bother to find out. My fault totally!

I just called them and sorted everything out. I have to send in a form which hubby has to sign. Perfect timing lol

It's a good thing it was brought up on the forum or else I would have put it off longer and gotten myself into more trouble!

Morning everyone! Yes, thank you ladies for the tax information. I just spoke with CRA and they said I need to fill in the World Income form and send it back. : Thank you Mr.Government of Canada for making your process so simle.

Jam - thanks for the updates! I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed your time with your hubby. Saying 'goodbye' is the hardest thing to do. I remember the last time I was in JA, the very morning I have leaving and then complete waterworks.

good morning everyone..welcome back jam!

So you guys are making me nervous about this while world income form...I filed my income tax this year as married, I told H&R block that I got married may 2009 and that my husband was living in Jamaica and in 2009 he had not been to canada to work and that he just received his PR (he was landing the following Friday) and she said that was fine..she said I could claim him which I did and she noted when he got his PR and all that..I got a wonderful refund because I claimed him..did she do this wrong?? I did not have to fill out any world income forms and hubby did not have to sign anything....on a side note we have no kids if that has anything to do with it...I'm a little nervous now that maybe she did it wrong??? HELP!

helpme - i'm not sure whether or not she did it wrong. I know that it does affect child tax benefit and GST refunds in the current year so maybe you should call to check with them just in case. that would ease your mind. or maybe in doing your taxes, that provided all the info you have to give to them and you might be ok.

I hate taxes and anything financial! I am good at everything else but that stuff....it makes me cringe just trying to figure it out!

I had gotten a letter from service canada to confirm my refund...I know once they had done it wrong and they recalculated and sent me some money back...I also called to ask if I would get a GST cheque because when I was living in Toronto I was making too much money but she said I would be getting one..starting July I think???

I hope they didn't screw it up..seems to me when service Canada would have gotten the amount of the refund from H&R they would have recalculated everything before sending a letter to confirm? Wouldn't they? good god hope she did not mess up...I'd be pissed..I even waited until I got the letter from service canada mentioning the refund before I even used a penny of it in case it was a mistake....blah!

So I decided to go ahead and print out the "Statement of World Income 5013-SA."

Now that doesn't need to have any of my info on it, correct? I dislike these Government forms.

HF - I am right there with you! the CRA scares me

a friend of mine got audited - she had someone doing her taxes for years (not an experienced person which was stupid of her to use to begin with) anyway it turned out she owed them $26,000.00 yes it was her own fault but it is still scarey!

hey guys... on the road heading in to the big city again, so inet is a bit iffy... we're somewhere's up near barrie presently...

quickly b/c the baby is a little sick and perturbed with something or the other (something isn't doing what he thinks it should be doing apparently... need to watch the road and make sure we don't get lost... lost is not fun... )

HF... what you need to do is write a letter explaining that you are submitting the world income on behalf of your husband who hasn't landed in Canada yet, so has no PR number... once he lands you'll need to fill out another form, but that should do it for now... just put your name and SIN on the letter and your hubby's name and xxx-xxx-xxx for his SIN number on the form itself (which actually has no spot for info if i remember correctly... i had to do this to get my child tax credit for my baby and it wasn't an issue at all.. they just want a written letter and declaration of world income... gets more interesting once they've landed and have a SIN..

Thanks Chelley! Much appreciated! I already prepped the letter. Their fax line is busy.

I think that the next time I owe the Gov't money I'm going to draw up a similar form, and ask them to fax it back with the appropriate fields filled in and a cover letter stating how they came to the amount owing complete with full calculation, step by step.

As the dog finished the man reached into his coat pocket and pulled out a doggie treat and started waving it at the dog. A passerby saw all the events happening and was shocked.
