They sent my husband to secondary immigration on his first visit to Jamaica because his return ticket was booked for 7 months in the future. The IO was suspicious when he said he was coming to live with his fiancee and get married, and "flagged" him. 5 months later when he was leaving, the immigration officer actually asked for his marriage certificate! Fortunately for us, we had gotten one right after we got married, and he had it with him. On his second visit, they asked for his return ticket/itinerary, and when he said he didn't have it because he booked online and hadn't printed it, they sent him to secondary again, and gave him a computer and told him to print off the itinerary and show them. Again, fortunately he had a return ticket booked and was able to print it for them.
My husband and I were apart for exactly 11 months and 2 days while we waited. I won't lie, it was hard. However, I think we had an "advantage" in that our relationship started online so we were already used to being separated once we had an emotional connection. Separation means nothing to us, being together is what's important. As my husband said, "I was separated from you for more than 30 years before we were together, I can bear another year and a half to make sure we are never separated again."
