anywhere in the world is not a sure place to live even in our very own country..what is important, is that, a person knows how to adopt and adjust to any situation he is in, and the most important weapon is ATTITUDE...intelligence does not count if a person has an attitude problem...just like with the example given above by tran...though a person is not equipped with intelligence but he has the right attitude, then luck and opportunities come in every direction...

most of all, lets not forget our Creator, who knows everything good for us

;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)
Very rightly said, to succeed in life ATTITUDE is very important. After working in many countires and many jobs i realized the truth. A person with bad attitude will mostly suffer and create problems to others and for himself. I see some people have problem with almost everybody, they are always vexed, always criticise and blame others (I am talking about professionals). Socialistic view, care and love for others, extending helping hand will do wonders in your life. If the help is not coming in materialistic way, then surely it is spiritual, more mental peace, more satisfaction from almighty God, no matter where you live.. at any corner of the world.

We should learn to stop and think every day, before going to bed each night asking questions ourselves- did I hurt anybody toady? How many times I lied toady? How many people I backbite? Did I make some one happy/smile toady? Did I make some positive contribution to the society with my actions/deeds or whole day I was criticising people, government, country? Did I pray to God toady and thank him for his unlimited blessings and bounties bestowed upon me? Is there any improvement in my ATTITUDE over the period of time or I am going worst day by day and going to die like this? How did I behave with my family, freinds and relatives today, was my behaviour selfish and self centered? It is all count towards an attitude. For good attitude people life is heaven, they always think positive way and for bad attitude people, life is hell.

BTW, charity starts from home, first of all we must be good to our spouses, children, parents. Are these members of my family are happy with my attitude towards them? Then it goes to relatives, friends and colleagues. If I improve my attitude, my almighty God will be happy with me, I will enjoy the bounties of heaven on this earth amidst the "hellers". . God will fill my life with joy and eternal happiness, no matter where I live or where I work.. in my home country or in Canada.

When you have a long drive and suddenly you have a flat tire... would you just walk away and be mad? or would you go out and change it... that if, you have a spare tire? It is you driving, whos in control, not the unemployment figures, not the salary rates, not the job losses nor the recession. It is you.

My spare tire is to engage into another career, a totally different one. I'd like to open my own restaurant or catering service in less than 10 years here in Canada. That's my long term plan, my spare tire. Me and my wife just turned 30 and we are already thinking of retirement as well.
it is wondering that how can u think about ur retirement ?as the life is too short and a country like canada does not take much time to change.i think there is a difference between LONG DRIVE and life .and which u said ur spare tire ,it will be flat in next 10 years of ur planning

info-gc,

thanks for the insight but I really won't change a well thought out decision like emigrating to Canada based on your experiences alone.

each of us are unique individuals and we'll probably have different reactions to a single situation. we got the message, life CAN be hard in Canada too but you don't have to keep on pushing it on us. your pessimism can be depressing.

just keep in mind that if you're down, then there's nowhere to go but up... good luck to you!

There is a lot of enthusiasm around here and I do not want to sound negative and discouraging.

Yet there are things you need to know.

The score based skilled class immigration system is a bogus one and it is not based on any real job demand numbers. What you will find out is, your skills and experience will not count for much and you will have a difficult time competing with the unemployed Canadian professionals and other immigrants that came here before you and are still struggling.

The reason Canada is going to accept another 500,000+ people in 2011 is they are expected to bring their savings with them.

If you are ready to spend the rest of your life in a factory as a regular employee toiling for $10-12/hour then you will be fine and may even be able to get a bit up the ladder. If, however, you come with the hopes of landing a job in your field in the first 5 months or even a year, this is extremely unlikely to happen, unless you are a real prodigy.

Best of luck to all of you!
The Pioneers who lleft Europe to build America did not have your retarted way of thinking. We immigrants are the smartest in our countries and we will succeed despite your discouraging or the slowness of the immigration system. It is because of immigrants like us that America and Canada enjoy their position in the world.

Thanks for the insult.

Everyone can give it a try in his/her own way and I hope you succeed.
It is human nature to avoid bad news and even, as they say, "kill the messenger". But there is black and white, good and bad. The good is always on the first page, the bad is rarely mentioned.

The standing of USA and Canada may have something to do with people, but it has a lot to do with politics, management, the shear size of these countries, natural resources and military strength. I do not want to say a word more.. :D

Keep in mind that usually there is more information in something negative than in something positive. Critique can help you improve.

P.S. 1 Please do not keep me accountable for the IT salaries numbers. I quoted a figure I saw. 30,000 or 40,000, it is still barely enough for the cost of living in Canada. I also saw ads "programmers - $10/hour" It may be a scam, but if the programmers are in a low cost country it is entirely possible. With houses, there are $250,000 dollar ones, usually older (also depends on the city) but there are $1,000,000 ones too. Yes they do burn a lot. One of my odd jobs was "security guard". I would get sent to burnt properties to secure them till the insurance agents show up. One particular house burnt two times in one year (with the help of someone). My friends place also burnt this summer.

P.S. 2 The question "What should I do?" For myself , I provided a reply above. I would be searching for a culture similar to mine.
It really depends on what you are looking for.

P.S. 3 I completely agree with what was said about attitudes, the treatment of family and friends and so on. Realistically, though, these are also very complex subjects and no one can be expected to be perfect.

I normally do not discuss religion, for lots of reasons... But...

All I can say is everyone has a choice, like you humanist, I am an atheist.
But I guess that the term "fairy tales" may also be insulting to those who are not :)

There are still a lot of religious door knockers that want to convert people in Canada, maybe because there are no many of us non-believers.
As I said, "everyone has a choice" and Canada allows that. But to all those who believe, please don't try and convince me that my choice is wrong - we are just different.
Yes, point taken about the 'fairy tales' comment, I've removed it from my post.

....as for the fact that Canada is not a particularly religious country - that's one reason why I want to move there! ;)

One of the many wonderful things about Canada is the right of free speech, (just as we enjoy on this Forum), and along with that right comes duty and responsibility. As previously stated, "it is human nature to avoid bad news" (except IN the news!). It takes courage to discuss things that are negative. If someone has the courage to lay out their thoughts we have the right to accept or reject and comment on the ideas, but not at the expense of someone else's character. Everyone has a story here. Everyone has stressors. The idea is to prepare and assist each other to achieve our goals. There is plenty in this whole process that is out of our control, but we can make this Forum a good place to be going through it. If you disagree with something, give your reasons objectively, but please don't slight "the messenger" to do it. Have a restful weekend everyone. My nickel (2 cents +HST).

==================================================
ARRIVAL 2001
==================================================
The year is 2001 and I land at Pearson Airport - Mississauga. Luckily there was a person to meet and greet me at the airport and offer me shelter for the first couple of nights; a really wonderful fellow. He was running a small company and during the first two days I was in his office reading the classifieds for a place to rent. On day 3 I picked up the first available place - a basement in an old townhouse off Bloor Street (Bloor x Dixie) that was just a single room at the bottom of a narrow, steep and screeching staircase, full of dust and no windows. The first time I went down all by myself I felt like I was being buried. I kept the lights on all night, and on the following morning I asked if I could have a different room. The landlord, who was an entrepreneurial Mexican lady living with her recently laid off husband and 3 kids, immediately agreed to offer me her room, as she said it was too small for her and the kids (no wonder?). I told her I wouldn't think the basement is suitable for kids, but she argued they had already lived down there before!

In 2001, the Government employees were on strike. It took over 3 months to get my SIN number, and I had little money to be left out of work that long. It soon became evident that people were more than jobs and there was hardly any response to my applications. One of the guys at the house who also rented a single room (he was from Peru) happened to know a lady who had helped him with employment when he first came. So I called that person for help. She immediately had a spot in a factory by the airport that was plating metal components for Chrysler. They asked me for safety boots, and not knowing better, I spent $120 on a pair of Mooseheads, that were damaged in the factory on day one. I still remember the smell of that place, the narrow racks and the crates with oily parts that were brought to us. We had hardly time left to breathe. You needed to be very agile to separate the parts in a stack and put them on the hooks in the rack. One day, just 2 hours before the end of the day, all 4 of us "illegal" guys were sent home as they had no more work and the business was slowing down. I was paid $8/hour in cash for this work, but to get paid I had to travel by bus to downtown Toronto and meet with that lady at a Spanish pub. Some days she was not there and I had to wait.....

After this job was over with I now held my SIN and was ready to accept formal employment. Again, it was only the temp-employment agencies that were interested. I registered with one of them and was sent to different places every 2-3 days. Eventually they had a "good" company that was offering me long-term temporary employment and if I passed the first 6 months I was going to be permanently hired. The company was recycling print cartridges and its name contained the word "green' but I no longer remember it. Here I came across a fellow who was from Jamaica , and who knew the plating company I previously worked for. He told me he only lasted there 3 hours. He said it was the most awful job he had ever had; and this coming from a person who never had the type of jobs and standing I had in my country.....

One day, the phone at the house rings, I pick it up and it is the landlord's unemployed husband telling me that "he wants me to move out of the house"!!! I wondered if he meant me, the fellow from Peru, or the third tenant they had at the house , or all of us. That evening I told the landlord who called and was immediately offered to read medical reports.....Her husband had lost his mind and was not coming back... Where did he go?

The cars were running up and down Bloor Street day and night making my little room quite noisy. I soon discovered it was located immediately over the kitchen, after my Peruvian savior decided to fry a semi-decayed fish; he then ate it. The three little kids, all girls were pulling food out of the fridge and spilling milk and cereal all over the place. Their Mommy did not care about cleaning one tiny bit. I was optimistic, treading the snow with my heavy Moosehead boots. I was certain better days were to come!

I am not sure of why there are people taking this in a -ve sense. I would say knowing this would equip a person better. I am not sure of whats going on with your life or what went on with others, but this is what I would do if I were in that position.

1: Immigrating to a new place is like battling in a war. Never jump in un-prepared. Some beautiful things are available on-line with respect to India.
2: Plan at-least $1200(you) + 400 per additional person per month and plan for 6 months.
3: Always land alone, till you settle down and then let the family land (if there are some official difficulties with that, please plan appropriately)
4: If point#3 is not feasible, DO YOUR HOMEWORK, home work means, not just asking people and forums, also using the power of Internet to its greatest extent. If you are not so knowledgeable of Internet, take the help of a relative/friend.
5: I would not agree to the title of this post that says "almost no jobs", there are jobs, lots today. It is just that, are you equipped so much to crack the nut? How strong is your influence to get the job. My personal experience: I was interviewing a candidate for the job, the candidate did not have Canadian exp, we still went ahead with the interview, we were 3 in the panel. When we started, the person did not look nervous, rather, candidates communication was really really bad. We were not able to continue the interview after 30 minutes due to that.
6: Please please please equip yourself with a better English. This is an English speaking country, when i say that it means that they do not know any other language other than that. English does not mean accent. Your accent is better as long you can pronounce these differently and correctly "tire, tier", "future, feature"
7: Accept the fact that this is new country, probably on the other side of the globe, depending on where you are coming from. It takes at-least 2-3 years to start settling down.
8: Try not just big cities like Toronto or Vancouver, try other cities around it or closer to it. There are tons of jobs in Kitchener-waterloo and London areas which are 100-150 km from Toronto.
9: If you want to live with "your" people, stay where you are, and don't immigrate and the gripe.
10: Unless your life is in threat, DO NOT RUSH with major decisions, and NEVER blindly trust anyone, do your research, reason is that perspective differs, you see what they don't see, it is your life, don't let others live it.

just my 2 cents...

I agree with you with some of your points like doing good research before immigrating. I am a travel and work person from one country to another. I have been to countries that have their own language and have succeed to work and fit in myself to the society,by learning their language and i keep telling myself if they finally issue me the visa to Canada, i am going to succeed, i have the language background and can always convince someone, of what i can offer and to what extend i can work.
So it al depends on different individuals. For those who have experience and have lived in different countries, it is always easy to find a way around to get a job. Lets be optimistic, all will be fine.

But it is also good to know from this life experiences of others so that you can prepare yourself before landing.

thanks
