I have a friend who is having a girl from the Us come to Canada with her young child to live here and get a place together. I have heard she can only be here for 6 mons and cant work for 2 years and I am just wondering what is really true and what happens if she files no paperwork to stay when shes here. If she can only be here for 6 mons what happens if she stays past that 6 month mark, and would she be allowed to come back if she overstayed?
Thanks in advance.

If she shows up at the border with all her stuff in a u-haul, be prepared to be turned away and possibly banned for a while. She is not allowed to move, only to visit. She can come and say she is there to visit her boyfriend and wants a visitor record which would allow her to stay longer. She could also just arrive saying nothing and get her 6 months but apply to extend her visit status before her 6 months are up.

As a visitor, she is not allowed to work. There is no immigration class for this guy to sponsor a girlfriend but if they get married he can sponsor her or if they manage to live together for 12 months while she is on visit status, he can also sponsor her as a common law partner. The can apply outland through the US even though she is in Canada and it is faster to get her PR that way than to apply inland. Might take 6-8 months to get PR vs. inland taking 9 months to first stage approval (work permit) and maybe 18 mo. total.

This woman plans to just come to Canada to meet my friend for the first time with her 2 ur old and their clothes and what she can put into a suitcase. She will prob tell the border ppl that shes only here for a visit but is telling everyone else shes getting a place when she gets here. She hasn't filed papers and neither has he. I think he didnt just incase it didnt work out las they've never met.
