So my now-wife and I just got married a few days ago, on the advice of people in this thread (we were gonna wait to get to canada first, but were told they might delay our PR until we actually get married, so...), and now i'm a little confused by the name-change issues.

My wife's passport and ID papers are still in her maiden name, but she does intend to use my last name from now on. So what should I write in the immigration forms? We'd rather not wait for her change-of-name stuff to all be finalized.

you can do it all in her maiden name but you kind of have to pick one name and stick with it. If she wants to use her married name, that's ok, but you'll have to wait for all her documents to come back changed. If you are going to use her maiden name, then she shouldn't change her name ANYWHERE until the PR is granted. Otherwise, it could get confusing.

I am waiting until the PR process is done for my husband before I change my last name.

Since we are applying outland, I don't want to be waiting for my passport, etc to come back before I can travel to see him, and don't want to risk slowing down the process anymore then it already is.

When I filed the sponsorship application, my passport was in my maiden name but all other paperwork had my married name on it. You are sending your marriage certificate also, and it has your maiden name on it, so they know you are the "same" person. :) Good luck.

If i were you, I will wait and get the immmigration part done, ie get to canada and then change the name to yours MR .......... it makes it easier in this sense. This is my view.

Get your marriage certificate, get started with the immigration process, depending on how your are going to apply, inland or outland - outland being very quick in process ie if your from Europe, USA, or Some countries in ASIA, Pillipo, lol and once in canada get it all change, very easy. good luck

My wife changed her maiden after we got married and before we even began the process , I was told if anything it Would make her case stronger and more genuine and she did want to change her last name to mine , It only took her 2 weeks to get the passport back from New Delhi.

The only document I didn't change when changing my name to that of my husband was my passport and you can still travel with your passport in your maiden name and this has not slowed down the process for us.

This is what I am doing. For small stuff like e-mails, mailings, anything not official I am using my married name, but until my hubby has his PR status I am keeping my maiden name on all bank/credit/healthcard/SIN/license/passport/etc, and anything else the government looks at for the immigration process.

But I have heard most people do not have trouble if they do change their name since the marriage certifiate has the maiden name, but I am just playing it safe and don't want anything to potentially slow down this already too long of a process.

I just landed last week and all of my travel docs have my maiden name. When I went to get my SIN from Service Canada and a BC ID card, I brought my marriage certificate and used my married name. So, the only thing that has my maiden name is my passport and PR card.

Its more of personal preferance,do what ever you like she can do the whole app in her married name and send in the passport with her maiden name they know how to put 2 and 2 together.your marriage cert that you send will tell them the difference.
