We are at the end of the process for your application for permanent residence in Canada. Since the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020, IRCC has had to stop in-person services to protect the health and safety of clients and employees. The Department has come up with innovative ways to conduct business. Confirming permanent residence (PR) status without an in-person interview through a new and secure PR Confirmation Portal is one of these new improvements we are happy to offer you.

Through the PR Confirmation Portal:

· You will confirm you currently live in Canada

· You will provide your current address in Canada (we’ll send your permanent resident card in the mail to this address)

· You will submit a recent photo (JPEG or PNG formats are accepted) which we’ll use to print your PR card

· IRCC will upload your document that proves your new PR status you will be able to use this document while you wait for your first PR card that will come to you in the mail

Hey guys, I need your insights here please. So I re-applied for my PR through a lawyer on June 17th (1st one was refused cos of wrong NOC), Medical passed on Aug 5th, Biometrics exempt (completed Oct 17th), RPRF request-Oct 29th, paid Nov 2nd). Background check and eligibility in progress and progress bar already at 91%. 1). What do all these mean?
2). I asked my lawyer to apply for GCMS notes and he says it will cost an additional $500 before tax to apply and for him to review it (note that gcms notes is free). Has anyone gone through such before?
3). In the retainer agreement with the lawyer, there is somewhere that says I cant contact IRCC for any reason, except through them (the lawyers). Has anyone experienced such before? iF i call, will that harm my application in any way?

2. IF you want your lawyer to review your notes, they will charge you and they are entitled to. Just because requesting GCMS notes for anyone who is in Canada is free, does not mean that your lawyer will not have to spend time to file your request and get your signatures on the consent form. If you do not want him to review, you can request your own GCMS notes through ATIP https://atip-aiprp.apps.gc.ca/atip/welcome.do if you are in Canada. 3. If you have a lawyer representing you, then they should be contacting IRCC, not you. You can contact IRCC, as it is your application, but then your lawyer will not be liable for any changes or instructions you provide and this can give rise to a situation where your lawyer can withdraw from representing you. This is a standard language in all retainers as lawyers do not want clients talking to opposite parties, which in this case is IRCC. If you do not want your lawyer representing you, you can remove him by fling a change of use of representative from IMM 5476, which you should not be.

Requesting GCMS notes is separate from calling or contacting IRCC. You can obtain your own GCMS notes. The Access to Information and Privacy program is managed completely separate from other IRCC lines of business. The submission of an ATIP request has no influence on the processing of an application submitted to IRCC

Hi all, do you know how many times of GU that an application should have before PPR? I think I got my first one today because when I clicked back, the status changed to "submitted", instead of "bad gateway" as the 02 previous times.

Some people get 2-3, some people get absolutely none and then PPR/CoPR. Others get a GU and then nothing for months.

Hard to say, but it can’t be a bad thing.

Just talked to an IRCC agent. Still no progress on my application, AOR 21 June

Biometrics completed 3rd Nocember
Eligibility: Recommended Pass
Criminality: In progress
Security: Not started
Processing Office: Ottawa

Im very thankful this forum exists. It gives a bit of frustration to see others with later AOR recives COPR, but also it is a relief to see that Im not alone in waiting

This is basically highway robbery. You can get your GCMS directly from the Government of Canada for $5 or free. No "review" is necessary, just skim the first and last pages.

500$?! That’s daylight robbery! I’m guessing that must be their legal fee. If in Canada, GCMS is free or $5 (depending on what option you go for)

Eligibility, background, security -- all still in progress. Today is the six months mark on my application. I called IRCC, requested a callback. They called me back in 27 minutes.

The agent over the phone wasn't particularly helpful. After confirming my identity, she took a few minutes to look up my application. She said that the six-month application timeline is pre-covid, officers work with reduced staff now and things are taking longer. Pretty much a standard response.

However, she did say something interesting. She mentioned that my application does not even have biometrics yet. I said, "what do you mean? it shows in my profile". She answered that those biometrics are just attached to my online profile but my application doesn't have them yet. Pretty sad.

So what does they mean by background in process if your application doesn't have biometric yet?

Probably means your criminality hasn't been passed. It's only when criminality is passed that your biometrics are officially processed and approved. Before criminality there's no real acknowledgement of biometrics. I noticed this from my GCMS notes.

Yup, join the club. Eligibility is key here because security (which can take months) can't start without it being properly passed. Criminality is fast and can happen anytime.
