Best is to learn to become patient and NOT to call them. We were told during our test in Vancouver PLEASE DO NOT CALL. It must get on their nerves if people call them all the time because nothing has happened. The official time for your citizenship application is 12 months and before that you should not call them. You run the risk of getting some really not so polite reaction on the phone. It can take weeks before your application is in process, depending on the office.

I will wait as you suggested. Thanks for your comment by the way I have a question, would it affect my case's processing time if I travel out of Canada for 1 month?

It did not with me. I was out of the country for six weeks, for a very good reason. I have a mother who is 85 in Germany and she needed my assistance. In fact I am going about four times per year and it did not make any difference.

I had sent them a message via web form telling them about my stays away, attached the travel documents and also a copy of my mother's passport. I explained my situation and I had my test at the end of July.

I will be gone again in September but my stays abroad should be in their system so I hope I will not get the invitation for the oath while I am abroad.

Interview and test went well and my status is now decision made. During the interview I explained again why I am so often abroad and away from Canada but I had no problem. She fully understood.

I have to say though: I have been already 9 years in the country, with three Canadian kids and a Canadian husband and all my in-laws are here. I am sure she was convinced that I am very well settled here in Canada and that the citizenship is not just a matter of convenience for me.

I am aware that technically in future there is no more the need to assure them of your intention to stay in Canada, in practical terms though I personally believe that this is exactly what they are checking for.
