I seem to be on the new system as an email came today telling me about my application, but eCAS shows nothing yet.

This never ever worked for me. I'm using Client ID that's on the front (format XXXX-XXXX. Don't forget "-"). Also, if you just got your AOR, you may need to wait till the next update of their system (usually Tuesdays). Good luck.NAFTA.couple said:

We sent you a letter acknowledging receipt of your application(s), and a study book called Discover Canada on July 22, 2014. Please consider delays in mail delivery before contacting us.
We started processing your application on September 30, 2014.
So, now that my application is in process, I wonder what it meant. Here's what it allegedly means:
Application In Process
Your file has been sent to the Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) office closest to your home for processing.
The CIC office will complete the necessary steps for a citizenship judge to make a decision on your application. If additional information or documents are needed, the CIC office will contact you.
If you are between the ages of 18 and 54, you will have to write the citizenship test. The citizenship test will determine if you meet the language and knowledge requirements for citizenship. You will be notified by mail about the time and place of your test. Once you receive your acknowledgment letter and the booklet called Discover Canada by mail, you should begin to study for the test. Applicants who are 55 years old or older and minors are not required to take the citizenship test.
An interview with a citizenship judge may also be required. Should this be necessary, you will be notified by mail about the time and place of your interview.
Application Withdrawn
If you wish to withdraw your application, you must advise us before a decision on your application has been made.

There is no need to keep calling the call centre. I think Sydney will decide whether you need an FP, RQ, or whatever. Then local office executes Sydney's order or give you a test according to the availability space. But they can also change your condition if you give them ? in interview after test.
IMO, Sydney has a tool to check your whole background, connect with CBSA and other departments, US border if necessary, etc. They don't upgrade this skill level for every office as that would require huge investment. Same like when you submit your fingerprint, local RCMP only collects your FP, then RCMP in Ottawa is the only one that can check your records, not any local RCMP.
Some people who applied in early July, already got test date in early to mid November. Most of July applicants with straight forward application will get test date by December to January.

My passport will exprie in November. Does my passport have to be valid to process my Citizenship at test and oath time?
No it doesnt. Your PR or PP can be expired when you go for the interview. But you will have to show them your most recent passport, passport with the landing stamp and the PR cards you've had in your possession since landing.james bond said:
