Hi guys!
I want to share my experience and get some advise from you guys regards my PR situation ...
I applied July 2014 for PR and 17 months later .. no reply from the immigration regards my status. I have a post-grad work permit that will expire this May and my passport that will expire this October. I called CIC office hundreds of time ... but they couldn't provide any info or give me any advise at all. So yesterday I received an email from them asking me to pay RPRF fee which I paid right away and sent them the receipt. However, in a couple of hours I received another email saying that they sent the first one by mistake.... I wasn't happy at all .... So I still don't have any updates from them even tho I called the CIC office twice today. The only thing I hear is I have to wait.
I don't mind waiting but the problem is that my work permit expires soon ... so I have no idea what im going to do. Ive heard about a Bridging work permit... Do you know guys what is it? Should I get my new passport first or maybe I can get the permit till October?
Im really stressing out and loosing hair here .... literally
Thank you!
Welcome to the forum!
Yes, you should be able to apply for Bridge Open Work Permit (BOWP) if you meet the conditions. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/work/permit/extend/permanent.asp
There was another requirement set recently that the Eligibility of your PR application must be set to 'Passed' in CIC's computer database program i.e. GCMS. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/tools/temp/work/prov/bridging.asp
Please contact CIC and check with them if your eligibility is passed or not. You can also apply for GCMS notes or copy of your PR file to check the same. There are plenty of posts and threads on this forum describing how to order these notes. Link to apply: https://atip-aiprp.apps.gc.ca/atip/
I won't recommend to apply for BOWP until your eligibility is passed or your current permit expires within 30 days. This will buy you some more time.
Most of the left over July 2014 applicants have started getting passport requests including myself. I know it's very frustrating to wait.
In regards to your passport, I'm not sure. I guess it depends on how soon you can get your passport renewed. If you get an email from CIC requesting your passport, you have to provide within 30 days.
Feel free to ask questions, people are very friendly and helpful here. Good luck!
