Wish all the best for you and everyone in this forum. I believe through the trend I'm seeing these days that things are moving a bit faster than before. if things keep the same pace, then hopefully we all will have the best news ever by spring 2014.

Started to process on October 24th. My guess is delay was caused by extra documents included in my family application (letters of employments, T4s, etc)
AOR has not been received yet.
My application has been already sent to Mississauga office.

How did you find out about the application being sent to the Mississauga office? Was it through ECAS or through the CIC Call Center?

CIC agent told me this. There are no updates in ECAS since my profile was created. I have not even received AOR, an agent sent me study guide by email.

Just got off of the phone with CIC agent. I asked her for status and she was like, "sir you know it takes 25 months, right?" :

Lol. Anyway, I asked her just whether my file had been transferred to the local office and she said NOT AT THIS TIME.

Apart from that though, she mentioned that Mississauga and Scarborough share the load and anyone in GTA can get either office. Really luck of the draw kind of thing. She expects my local office to be Scarborough (TO CLARIFY - MY APPLICATION HAS NOT BEEN SENT TO THE LOCAL OFFICE YET).

My wife, whose citizenship application is in process, has gone to India for 3 months. She called CIC before leaving Canada to inform about the absence. She was advised that because she is away for 3 months, she needs to inform in writing to CIC. CIC sent her an email and asked her to reply with a letter. My wife had replied to that email in writing and we have mailed the response to CPC-Sydney.

Following is the email that she got from CIC:
"Sir, Madam,

Thank you for contacting Citizenship and Immigration Canada. I am pleased to follow up on your request:

Unavailability

You can notify us of your period of unavailability in order for the local Citizenship and Canada (CIC) office not to schedule you during this timeframe. If your period of unavailability will be:

less than two (2) months and this is the first time you are informing us of a period of unavailability, then you can advise us with the dates you will be unavailable so that a note can be entered in your file.

two (2) months or more or you have previously notified us of any period of unavailability, then you will need to advise the CIC office processing your file. The mailing address and/or fax number for your CIC office appears on the letter you received.

You must send a letter indicating:

o your complete name and date of birth;
o address in Canada before departure;
o address abroad;
o name and phone number of a contact person in Canada;
o the unavailability period(s);
o availability if client returns to Canada for a short stay during the unavailability period;
o the reason(s) for the unavailability period(s);
o supporting document(s) regarding the situation, if applicable.

The responsible office will communicate with you if they require more information or when an appointment becomes available."

Called CIC today for a different reason, but decided to ask them about my application.
This time I was told my application is still in Sydney and they have started background checks...
Wondering how much times it takes to get them done and the file to be transferred to local office...
