Joint Bank Account

Im trying to open a joint bank account with my canadian husband and Im american and one bank is telling me I need my social security card (forgot it at home at the time) and another bank (RBC) is telling me I need a canadian I.d. Like a permanent resident card... Do you know how long that will take??? Any one else run into this problem? Im really frustrated

Really? I went to RBC and all I needed was to show I had legal status in Canada and it was for a while. Maybe try showing them as much proof that you are going or have already applied for PR?

I am Canadian and my partner is British and we opened an account with TD . If your husband already has a bank account , that's all you need is I.D. is your passport and you should be able to add your name to the account . You do have to go in Person with your husband .,

Yes, thats right. Banks in Canada are very supporting and do not really bother in opening an account. It should be easy if you have proper IDs

My bf has an account with RBC and all he has is a student visa. Canadian ID wasn't required.

My husband made his TD account joint with me, and all I required was my passport for identification. I had a SIN number already, as I was landed, but while they do ask for it, they won't turn you away for not having one.

When I eventually opened an account on my own at Scotiabank, I did need two pieces of ID, but a foreign passport IS acceptable as one such piece of ID.

I just opened a joint account with my US husband at T.D and all he needed were two pieces of ID..passport card and drivers license

I also got turned away from coast capital(that's where my bf has an acc) for not having permanent status in canada.. also canadian drivers license was needed and i didn't have it at the time. We opened a joined account in NZ before coming to Canada and that seemed to be all immigration needed. Good luck!
