I agree with this advice overall but would just note that lately PR card renewals have been going very quickly (at least for those in compliance etc, which all citizenship applicants should/would be) - like most in less than a month. Of course, YMMV.

Not saying it's not a good idea to renew - but with January citizenship app and if PR card expires in December (for example), I'd probably be comfortable waiting until, say, September - in case citizenship is completed before then. Fingers crossed anyway.

Obviously anyone can decide if they're more concerned or travel so important they can't risk it.

I guess the concern with PR card renewals and passport applications right now is whether Canada Post go on strike again. Nobody will want such an important document stuck in a Canada Post warehouse for weeks.

My own PR Card expires towards the end of this year but I need to travel in a couple of months from now. If my citizenship application is approved and I'm invited for oath in the next month or so, I may just postpone it until after I get back tbh because I don't want to risk not having my passport in time and my PR Card already being cancelled.

That's really a different problem case than what was discussed about PR card renewal above, but sure.

Obviously we'll see what happens with the potential strike and if passport office issues any instructions - but if you're in a place with a passport office, their 'pick up instead of delivery' service is a bit faster and costs $20 or something (not to mention way less stressful than waiting for post). And it's possible they'd waive that fee in a postal strike.

Not convenient if you're far from a passport office is really the only downside.

No email received but my tracker has updated and shows LPP was completed on May 9th. Only Citizenship Ceremony is still outstanding and is in Not Started status.

LPP took around 6 weeks after Background completed.
When was your BG completed exactly?

I live in downtown Toronto so I'm sure I could get to a passport office if I need to but I imagine they could be havoc during the summer, especially during a postal strike.

Also, I know someone who chose that option for their kid's passport and the passport just ended up being mailed anyway. When she contacted the passport office to ask why, their response was they'd sent it already and she was SOL. Fortunately, the passport did arrive in time for their flight a few days later.

my hope was lifted cuz my notes said the file was assigned to an officer and there is a due date of May29, however it is still not changed, I have no FP request, my AOR is Jan 9, I am just so fed up at this point

Maybe I should order my notes too, my AOR is just 6 days after you and no FP request. I think people who had FP request actually got processed faster because they had some movement on their applications in the form of FP. What is the date on your notes? Just curious how long it has been since they assigned you the officer

How do you know if an application has been approved once all the steps apart from Ceremony have been completed? Is it just a case of waiting for an email?

I ordered on Apirl 9, received on May 8, the info generated on May 5? My office is Vancouver so maybe that is why IT IS SO SLOW

Hi all,

My tracker says that the ceremony is scheduled on May 27th, but I haven't received an email yet. Unfortunately, I will be outside Canada from the 16th until June 11th. Does any one know what the process is to reschedule the ceremony? How long does it take?
