Vancouver office handles non-routine files transferred from other offices, in additional to their normal workload. Files that are classified as non-routine take longer time to process.

Can you point me to where this was published or someplace where this was mentioned? Just wanted to get the facts straight. Additionally, let's say this is true; in that case, shouldn't the office be equipped to compensate for that? We are discussing uniform processing times across offices, it does not matter if an office is processing 100000 files or 100, the rate in which files are processed should be more or less similar across cities. There would be differences, yes, but those time differences still should be small so that there is no general perception among people that "X" office is notoriously slow. That is my 2 cents.

There has been quite a bit of reports on this forum and also in FB groups about people being told by IRCC agents on call that their files have been transferred to Vancouver office as it's non-routine. Judging by the experiences reported by most applicants who end up with Vancouver, there is truth in that. If non-routine cases mean more advanced screening for security involving multiple agencies or even countries, prohibitions etc, then it will take more time than norm.

The processing time is an AVERAGE across the hundreds of thousands of applications being processed. Some will fall at the top of this spectrum, while some will fall at the end. Some will end up being outliers and take years to complete depending on the particular situation.

Vancouver office is undoubtedly slower than other offices for reasons previously stated but we should bear in mind that people that are frustrated with the process are more likely to complain on platforms such as this, that doesn't mean they don't represent the bulk of applicants.

It’s also worth putting this “slow processing” in perspective. This is the January 2025 thread. If you’re a January 2025 applicant you’re not even halfway to the standard processing time, so honestly it seems a bit goofy to be up in arms about slow processing at this point.

This is a misconception and baseless generalization. Maybe that's how it is where in your home country, but I haven't seen it to be the case here. As someone else already pointed out, this is offensive to the workers.
I respectfully disagree.

Actually, this isn't entirely true. Back in January, they were providing a time estimate of 7 months. Therefore if you applied in early January, you're considerably beyond half of the estimating processing time by now.

This would make sense if a lot of those sent to Vancouver didn't have completed background checks as per the tracker and just appear to be stuck in LPP status.

Woah woah woah bro, let us not go there "that's how it is where in your home country.." - really? You are trying to get citizenship in a country where saying stuff like this can get you in real trouble. So let us refrain from saying stuff like this, maybe? Let us keep the discussion going, but be respectful towards each other (even when others are not).

Read the last 10-15 messages thoroughly, please. No one is saying they are falling behind the estimated processing time. People are just frustrated seeing this one office is quite consistent in making delays. Just go through the timelines and you will see the relative timelines across people, and you will notice applications from Vancouver are RELATIVELY quite slow, and this has been the case for a long time.

I have read them thoroughly. :) I’m just pointing out that this seems like a tempest in a teacup of a lot of frustration and anger when people are still far from the average processing time.

Anyway, I’m out of this particular conversation about Vancouver now as I don’t think anything productive is going to come from this from my end. I don’t know what my processing office and don’t care.

Well people who applied in the first week of January would have just hit 4 months out of 7 this week which is pretty close to 3.5 months which is half of 7. So I think “considerably beyond half” is a bit of a stretch, but also if you’re just waiting on LPP you’re realistically over half done since it seems like for most people once LPP is done the oath comes quite quickly. As above, I’m also bowing out of this part of the conversation - same thing about tempests in teacups.

May everyone see some movement in their applications soon!

Agreed, it is true people (that includes me) get frustrated and anxious. So let's all just take it easy, let go of things beyond our control. And let us just hope for the best for all of us, we are in this together!

It's fine. I said something they disagreed with and they called me out on it. I don't think any racism or other form of prejudice was implied and there's no harm done.

It is not just citizenship. Vancouver office is notorious for inefficiency in every signle application. One of my clients was scheduled for an in person interview at that office. I booked an interpreter for the family, they sent a message to me 24 hours before the interview saying "tell your client to bring someone with them who can translate, we don't have enough resources for booking an interpreter." I was like WTF! I deal with Etobicoke Office, Calgary Office and a few other offices everyday due to the nature of my work. This has never been the case in these offices. Other offices even call me as the rep on file, so they can process client applications faster!!! You get it? Faster!
But I swear, Vancouver Office officers just don't give a rat's a** about anyone! I mean, a little bit of taking accountability and responsibility is not a bad idea! You guys are being paid by the public, you must serve the public efficiently! No response to Webforms, no response to urgent processing requests, nothing! It looks like as if there are just 2 officers doing everything during a 7.5 hours shift! My bad luck, my citizenship application is with Vancouver office! And... you guessed it, it is stuck after BG completion. No LPP yet!
Hi Farsxp,
This might be a bit off-topic, but you seem to have a solid understanding of immigration processes. I recently had my LPP completed in my citizenship application and am now just waiting for the Oath ceremony. However, my PR card recently expired, and I’m unsure whether I need to renew it before the Oath. Do you happen to know if that’s necessary?

Thanks so much in advance!

funny that folks will find things to argue about something here. Please stay on the topic.

I don't think anyone is arguing. There are just quite a few irritated people on this thread who are receiving what they feel to be unfair treatment from the IRCC Vancouver office and are probably looking to vent.

The good news is that we have eachother so nobody in this thread needs to suffer through this whole process alone.
