Right, if you paid money for it and cancelling it won't have refund, then I don't think you want to cancel unless they have a bad reputation and messed up their clients in the past. ECAS is still a good way to check your application progress regardless you have a representative or not I believe.I think in your position I will not cancel representation, should you have paid him/her in full. some time they come handy should there be some appeal documents and or response to be drafted to IRCC.
For those who haven't applied yet, or haven't paid for the representation yet, applying on own behave is good enough since the official site showed the detailed steps that you just need to make sure you are qualify, follow exactly what the site tell you to do, and you will get your PR.
