Hello everyone. I am new to this forum and in a few days I will be sending our application to Mississauga, Ontario. My husband and I are living in Egypt and we just paid the fee today online. Wondering if someone can tell us if the receipt number the same for the client number? We would appreciate any help in this.

Thank you

Hello everyone!

I am new to this thread :) I am being sponsored by my Canadian husband for PR (we married in the states in September) and have FINALLY put all our paperwork together and are ready to send in the application this week (applying outland) Been a long stressful process to get this all done so needless to say I am so relieved to finally send it in :)

I am in Canada now visiting, so I am waiting for my part of the application to get here (my mom is mailing it here from the states for me) so we can send all of them off together.

Has anyone had trouble crossing over the border while their paperwork is being processed? I understand I can visit my husband while it is being processed but he always sees to have one heck of a time going into the US (I guess because we are married in the US) but we have some trips planned in the next few months so I just want to be able to stay with him during the processing time

I am putting some positive energy out there for all of us to have a smooth process!

If you're hoping to stay here in Canada for awhile with your spouse and go back and forth, be careful. It's encouraged once you get the paperwork in to stay in Canada if you're already here while you're allowed because border patrol has given hard times before for married people with apps in BEFORE it goes to an In Process status. Mostly because they feel it means the person wants to come here and stay. I had a difficult time myself and now I just got an extension to stay and refuse to even attempt to cross and come back because I'm afraid I'll be turned away. Basically it's a risk anytime your cross without an "in process" status on ecas or something and up the the border guard's discretion. I wouldn't personally attempt it (and wont) until after I know it's in Ottawa and being processed into stage 2 for a bit.

No it's not. It's the number that is on the receipt for your fees paid I think is what you're referring to.

Further note (I'd edit my message but I can't.. dunno why) --- I will try to help everyone in this thread the best I can since I'm a former May applicant so I've got a little bit of a heads up on some of the stuff from being on here awhile. If I don't quite know, I'll tell you but give you opinion. Good luck everyone!

Welcome to the forum and good luck on your application! most likely you don't have a UCI (unique client identifier) yet if it's the first time you are dealing with CIC and immigration in general. So in your application, just leave it blank. Make sure you fill out the details from the receipt so they can identify the application, and it should all be good!

I actually didn't think about them not even having a UCI yet. I had one only because I got an extension. Good one Sweden.

How long did it take for you to get an extension and by what method and format did you receive it

I applied via postal mail 30 days prior to my leaving set date. I did it this way so it would take longer and I'd have implied status at least. It took about 2 months to receive, but it just came as a new visitor record in the mail with the new date on it.

Dear January applicants,

I was going to volunteer to edit the January spreadsheet but unfortunately, I am facing some browser system difficulties, and was going to ask if there is anybody else who would like to take care of editing the spreadsheet?

Many thanks in advance!

Thanks so much for the advice! If you don't mind me asking more about this topic, what is the difference between telling the border guards that you are in the process of putting the paperwork together (but haven't sent it) VS you have sent it in? Do they actually have a way of telling the status of the paperwork? Is this the same for crossing into other countries such as Mexico? I will be sure not to go back to the US for awhile now (as they really crack down). Just want to make sure I understand completely :) thanks!

well - if you say that you are putting the papers together, you might be doing that for another year, there is no proof of where you are at, and when you will get the PR, and how serious you are - and the immigration officer is concerned that you'll stay in Canada, overstay, and maybe try working without a work permit etc...
On the contrary, if you have applied - well it means that you are serious about getting a status in Canada, and you're less likely to do something illegal because you have no interest in putting your application in jeopardy... that's why it makes a difference to them.
Even if you have sent your application, you can always pay the fee and carry the receipt with you. The border guards can not see it on the computer (for outland, for inland they can) until a certain stage, but you can show proof that you have applied (fee receipt), or have been approved stage 1 (letter of approval), or stage 2 in process (print out of ecas for example). the 1040$ is a pretty hefty fee, so most likely you will only pay if you seriously intend to apply for PR.

Good luck,
Sweden

you're probably not the only one.... it's advisable to put "n/a" because it makes it easier for CIC, but you won't be rejected if you didn't, so don't worry about it - if all the forms that are needed are there, then it should be all good!
Good luck,
Sweden
