JAN 2015 Citizenship Applicants

I know I have asked this before but I have to ask this again.

I send the application on Dec 31st and they received it on jan 7th. I used the old payment system so didn't knew about extra $230 that we have to pay. Now what should I do. I called CIC and they told me to wait till April (Edmonton office) before they can review my application. NOW

A) Should I just resubmit my application again with the extra $230
B) Should I wait for them to open and my file and let me know what do to.
C) Just pay extra $230 and mail them the payment page

Please let me know what do you guys think I should do

More than 260,000 people became new Canadians; Backlog elimination on track
December 23, 2014 — Scarborough (Toronto), Ontario — Canada welcomed more than 260,000 new citizens this year, thanks to the government's improvements to the citizenship program as well as recent reforms to the Citizenship Act, Canada's Citizenship and Immigration Minister Chris Alexander announced today. This is more new Canadians than in any year in Canada's history and more than double the number from last year.

Through recent changes to the Citizenship Act, the government has made strides over the past year to improve the citizenship application process, and applicants are already seeing results.

A new citizenship decision-making process, which came into force August 1, has streamlined the process from three steps to one. Since implementing the new process, more than 115,000 people have become Canadian citizens – a 90 percent increase from the same time period last year.
Canada's citizenship application backlog has been reduced by 17 percent since June 2014, and is at its lowest level in almost three years.
The government is on track to eliminate the citizenship application backlog and reduce processing times to less than one year sometime in the next fiscal year.
To have applicant fees more closely reflect the costs associated with processing citizenship applications, citizenship processing fees will increase from $300 to $530 for applicants whose complete applications are received after Jan. 1, 2015. These applicants will benefit from the processing improvements outlined above, and this is in keeping with user-pay principles and a move toward full cost recovery in the citizenship program.

Applications for a grant and resumptions of citizenship to a minor are exempt from this change. The $100 Right of Citizenship fee for successful applicants remains the same. Other fees for services, such as for citizenship proofs, are not changing.

Hi,

I know a friend of mine was in same situation and he took option C) paid extra fee online using the appropriate payment option and send them the payment page (on 2nd of Feb) and he is still waiting for a reply.

Payment may expedite the process but make sure you call them and say you have paid the due fees so that they know and will start to review you file soon. Good luck.

I wonder none of Jan 2015 applicants have received AOR, so if it would be 2-3 months as for all previous applicants, , then it means the extra $230 didn't help anyone of us... but we paid extra to compensate the old backlog clearing ...

I doubt processing would change that quickly it might smooth out eventually but looking at the Dec thread they appear to be around 3rd week of Dec, I would expect Jan AoR's to start rolling around First week of March.

I am actually going to mail my MP about this. This is totally unfair on all counts. If Jan+ applicants will not receive a better treatment, I want my 230$ back. It is certainly not our fault that the minister decided to recover the cost of his new citizenship process only now. Instead of giving us some sort of priority over the other applicants, we're being put in the same queue as everyone else.

Yes, it is unfair if the Jan+ applicants did not have any benefit from that $230. I just hope that "benefit" would come when they start open our files. Let wait and keep our fingers crossed.

In addition to the nation-wide tracker, I think it would be beneficial to have our own January database so that we don't have to sort through a lot of unnecessary information.

Just like how the December 2014 folks have it...

I think that the global sheet is better because it is all about the local office and not the Date of submitting the application.
