From the feedback I have from my contacts in Canada it is not considered equivalant to Canadaian Experience but North American Exp counts little better than European and Asian experiences

Actually, US education and work experience is considered equivalent to Canadian work experience. Under NAFTA, Canada and the USA have a mutual recognition policy for each other's education and work experience.

For example, an US educated and licenced Doctor is considered equivalent to a Canadian educated and licenced doctor and NOT an International Medical Graduate(IMG) and vice versa. They still might have to take some additional certifications which are mandated by each Canadian province or US state - but the overall recognition is at par between the 2 countries and the extra steps are very nominal in comparison to European or Asian work experience or education.
