Of course, never lie to CIC. My advice remains the same though: talk to a settlement worker or lawyer who can advise you on this in an individualized and confidential manner. The question is how to tell the truth in the way that is safest and best for you, your wife and your child. It's going to be a subtle question which is why you will not be able to get a proper answer on an anonymous forum.
Clearly there is some emotionally and legally fraught territory to traverse. You need to do that in the most informed way possible so that you and your family know the ramifications of decisions, what sort of pitfalls to avoid and what sort of wiggle room there might be.
