Hi everyone... I'd like to ask some pieces of advice from forum members regarding my situation. I live in the Philippines but presently working in Doha Qatar as Staff Nurse. I am 38 years of age and have 15 years of experience in the field of nursing (local and abroad-mostly at Middle East like Saudi Arabia and Qatar).. I have been trying to look for a job in Canada related to my profession, or even not related will do, but do not know where to start. I have started applying at job openings at jobbank.gc.ca but to no avail. I have not applied for Federal Skilled Worker Class because of the 500 cap that has already been reached. Is there a way for a nurse like me to still work in Canada? Do I have available options? Because it has been my dream of working and living in Canada. I believe I could get opinions from this great forum.. Thank you in advance for your replies.

God bless us all..

From what I know Wenram, Nurses are always welcome in Canada. You could try contacting or applying directly with hospitals in Canada. If you don't mind living in a small city or if you are not keen on living in Toronto, you could always try for places in Nova Scotia, Alberta etc. On top of that you could also consider applying as a student in one of the colleges in Canada, Ofcourse its costlier and lengthier road to PR. If you come here as a student you could get "CANADIAN EDUCATION" and I am sure you will get a job almost immediately with your experience abroad and education in Canada. Good Luck

Hi everyone.. Just wondering, I believe that if an employer in Canada intends to directly hire me from here in Qatar, the employer would have to apply for LMO in Service Canada by first advertising it in the jobbank for 14 days, right? That is to prove that no Canadian Citizens or PR are interested on the job that needs to be given priority over Temporary Foreign Workers.

My question is: There could be a lot of Canadian Citizens and PRs who qualify for Registered Nurse position in Canada, could that mean that I have a slim chance on having an approved LMO?

Did someone encounter this? a TFW who got an LMO for nursing position? I hope there are... That could somehow give me hope in pursuing. God bless us all...Thank you in advance for all your responses...

Hi Wenram,

Please try browsing through this http://www.cna-nurses.ca/CNA/nursing/becoming/international/default_e.aspx link. Hopefully you might get some info that is helpful. Your point about LMO seems very logical. However, I have to point out that most of the nurses in Canada that I have observed are from your community and part of the world and I must add that they are doing an excelent job.

Thanks androme! I have been surfing the site that you gave me. If I may ask: Is it possible that Canadian employers give me offer of employment being a foreign worker? And without having taken the "Licensure exams of provincial/territory" because I am outside Canada? I understand it's one of the vital requirements for considering a worker, but how would I be able to have that as I am not there? :-[

I have this thought that Canadian employers might consider looking for RNs who landed in Canada by Federal Skilled Worker Program, because they are already in Canada. But I believe Canada is experiencing labor shortage in nursing occupations and hope they would somehow create a program for TFW like us who are willing to share our experience in profession.. Thank you... :)
