Hi I was on spouse open work permit, my husband on w-1 visa. I was about to go to Canada but they denied me boarding saying my travel was non essential. I was with my daughter on student visa. We are to reunite with my husband on work visa who came there last January. Under the family reunification aren't TRV holders allowed to board the flight regardless if we are on open work permit??

Guess you can try the process as per this link. It was always going to be a challenge getting past checkin agents who even pre COVID can be inconsistent

The family reunification rule applies to TRV holders who have immediately family members who are Canadian citizens or permanent residents. So the family reunification would unfortunately not apply to you.

As a work permit holder, you can board a plane if you are able to prove your reasons for traveling are essential.

Hi, I am on spouse open work permit and was able to travel last 31 March. They did not require any documents from me except the IRCC and CBSA letter that time.

Good day. May I know what airline did not allow you to board the plane? May I also know if you were able to ask for a letter from the embassy? Thank you.

FW are included on the travel exemption, maybe some airlines are just strict or it got strict now. Coz I just landed and able to get my work permit at the border that day.

It was All Nippon Airways, and no they haven't given me any letter since the embassy here said my travel was non-essential since I don't have a work waiting for me and my daughter's school isn't going to start yet. My only option is to email IRCC directly.

Thank you for the information. May I ask ma’am. Are you on W-1 status also in your visa?

Are you from the Philippines ma’am? Did you try to email IRCC regarding the letter? Did you find any job before going for a trip?
