Is there any difference in processing times depending on the language of service you choose?

Hello everyone,

Does anyone know if the choice of French or English for the 'In which language would you like to receive service?' question impacts processing times? I'm bilingual and I'm just wondering if the backlog might be lesser for francophone applications, for instance.

No. As federal workers they have to speak both official languages.
Not entirely true - there are positions for which bilingualism is required, but many, many that do not require both. There's a simple-in-theory, complex-in-practice series of requirements for how they decide this - and also what level of bilingualism (really basic, intermediate, advanced, basically fluent) for that position. That said it's pretty pragmatic in many cases - the public has to be served in language of choice, but doesn't mean everyone on the cash register at a museum in Calgary has to fully fluent (one cash might have to have someone who can make change, answer basic questions).

Anyway - for the purposes of this question - I highly doubt there's much advantage to going for a language one isn't comfortable in, even if bilingual. Not much of the back/middle office part of citizenship is that complex, and a lot of federal workers will have enough french / english to deal with both reasonably competently.
