Hello everyone,

As you can see in my timeline, my husband's application has been in process @ London since February 10th, he was interviewed and approved on August 10th. The IO that interviewed him told him that he needed to re-do his medical since it was approaching an expiry and that his background checks are not completed yet. The IO said that he should be contacted for a PPR by the end of SEPTEMBER or mid-OCTOBER once the new medicals are received and background checks are done

We have not ordered CAIPS notes fearing it may slow down the process (does anyone know if this is true?). We have not contacted London or the IO to ask for an update (I know for sure this may slow it down since they work on BF dates). We figured, from what we've seen with BC experiences, since it is pending background checks, their updates are not going to give us any clear insight as to when they will be done since it's with CSIS and not CIC.

Any suggestions as to what we should do? I'm so, so, sooo depressed and anxious all the time. Any thought will be appreciated.

Order your CAIPS notes and find out whats going on. It takes about a month and does not affect your processing time as long as you dont order the case file.

Thanks for responding.

Have you ever ordered CAIPS notes? Does it contain information about background checks??? If so, what kind of information??

Thanks!

Ordering your CAIPS won't slow anything down - it's a printout from the main system in Ottawa, so the foreign office doesn't even really know about it. It might not say much about background checks, becuase CIC will say they are just waiting for other countries and agencies to get the info back for them. It will probably show your Bring Forward Date, which is the next time your file will be reviewed. Basically, if London requested some info from somewhere on Sept 1, they might put a Dec 1 Bring Forward Date on your file. Even if the other country/agency returns the info in October, no one in London will look at the file until December 1. Frustrating, I know!

Unfortunately, background checks are the most unpredictable part of the process. What is your husband's nationality? How many countries has he lived in? London tends to process non-Europeans VERY slowly, which is one of the reasons we chose to have my husband processed at home in West Africa rather than London. Look at sadgirl, her Iraqi husband's application spent 15 months in background checks in London. Ugh.

I don't mean to scare you, just wanting to let you know that no one can predict anything. Definitely order your CAIPS notes, and hopefully he will have PPR before you get them, but at least if he doesn't you will know his Bring Forward Date.

Thanks bobshynoswife.

I'm very familiar with SadGirl's story and it looks like I'll be in the same boat :(. My husband is also Iraqi. He has lived in 2 countries in total: Iraq and Sweden. It's very unfortunate that London handles their cases in this manner.

This is the main reason why we haven't asked for updates, because we know where it's at. I just feel so anxious, frustrated, and depressed by this whole process and how long it has taken.

I do have the contact info of the IO that interviewed him (same one that interviewed SadGirl's husband) and I'm thinking of just calling him next month (3 months after the interview) to see where things are at.

Please pray for us, I don't know how much longer I can keep my sanity for :(

My dates in the above post were just for example, each office and application is different. I don't think it ever hurts to order CAIPS. They take 4-6 weeks to receive, so you might as well do it.

I am so sorry. It's very unfair that your husband is being discriminated against because of his citizenship. I know many people say they don't do it, but London does!! Anyone who isn't European has a very tough road going through the London office. I think you're right, and if you can call the IO directly, that's so much better. From reading SadGirl's situation, it seems that he is a good guy, so it couldn't hurt.

You are most certainly in my prayers - you have definitely waited long enough!
