Hello,

I have a question for Canadian Citizenship application process.

I along with my family needs to apply for application.
Could you please tell me, which option is better or recommended?

Option 1) To apply for Citizenship application individually? (Husband and wife separately?)
Option 2) To apply for Citizenship application by sending all applications for all in One application package?

FYI - Wife is housemaker.

Thanks

If you both meet 1095 days residency then apply together is better. My wife and son applied together in April and their oath is on 12 Jan while I applied in June when I completed 1095 physical residency..

If you apply together then your application would be processed together. If one person has not achieved 1095 days and other has then either wait when both are eligible or the person who has already achieved 1095 days can apply individually and the other person who when achives 1095 days can apply individually that time.

If you both submit together and if there is some paperwork missing the complete application(both of yours) would be returned.

Hello manty

Make sure both applications are complete and Not missing any document's, meeting the residency requirement with few days extra as a buffer to be on a safe side then apply together since family applications are always processed faster than individual one
If there are problems with one of the applications, the rest might continue to be processed. If you want all of the applications returned if one is not accepted, you will have to send a request for that in a letter and include it in the envelope.

Good luck!

Thank you my dear friends for your reply and wishes.
My wife and i, both meet residency requirements for citizenship.
Based on suggestions, i would prefer applying together.
Thanks!

One question here:
If my spouse and i file together for citizenship application, is it necessary to have both applications present together on citizenship ceremony?

wife is planning to be out of country for 4-5 months next year, if i get oath request during that period, then can i attend that ceremony individually or do i need to wait for my wife to come back and go for ceremony together.

If she is going for a long time then apply individually. If you apply together the processing will happen together. When she is away, she has to notify CIC that for how long she is going away for (usually you have to notify if you go for more than 2 weeks)

Also in case, you apply together and your wife is away if they ask for any documentation or test/interview and if she does not come then you might have to reschedule it (the only accept valid reason for reschedule) and in that case your application will be delayed as well. So just apply individually.

Hello thecoolguysam:
Notify the CIC that she's leaving? what for? I understand that the post application period is yours you go wherever you want without notifications. Please clarify...

Check the following link:

While we process your application, you should only contact CIC if:

you change your address,
you plan to leave Canada for more than two weeks in a row,
you are charged with a crime or
we do not contact you about your file within the posted processing times.

Hi Manty
My suggestion to you is apply separately.

It is better to be safe.. even if either doesn't get still you will be safe as there are high chances of atleast one of them getting it. There are many cases on this forum (I have been researching here more than a year) where the family applications are stuck due to one person's insufficient information.

Second thing is if you are sure that your wife will be away then it makes more sense to apply separately than having the stress of oath dates.

Hi Ottowa 2013,
How do you know that family applications are processed faster than individuals?

Family applications

If more than one member of your family is applying for Canadian citizenship, send all the applications together in the same envelope. The applications will be processed together. If one or more family members' applications are incomplete, ALL of the applications will be returned to you.

It means that if there is an issue with one application then whole family application would be returned.

Hello Ottawa 2013,

I did not see anywhere where it says family applications are processed faster than individuals.
Can you post the link which reflects that information?
