U would have to submit the ILETS together with the application after the 1st round, which is after u have received the AOR. Or else under the new ruling after April, there would not be any chance to prove yr language ability and get the full scores that u rightfully deserve if u do not show yr ILETS.
IELTS still cost $200, which is quite a big amount, considering I have spent so much money already on bad moves in pursuit of immigration. I wonder if there is any other way to prove language proficiency, like using the assessment results given by an immigration officer from a previous application. Because in my previous application, the officer mentions there that I have intermediate French ability, and can speak English fluently.

Anybody who have done this, please do share your experience.

From all of these discussions, I understand:

1. When I send in my initial application to CIO, I dont necessarily have to have my results in hand or I dont need to submit the results.

2. I can sit for the IELTS after my initial application has been submitted?

3. My spouse doesnt need to provide any such English proficiency test results?

Correct??

Thank you

Of course u can do that, but there is no guarantee that u will get the points that u hope to get or u actually deserved cause there is no way for them to assess yr "true" english ability unless u can take ILETS or another way is for u to write a letter or an essay to explain yr case of proficiency but that again does not guarantee the points that u need to get cause its all at the mercy of the immigration officer who is assessing yr application case. So why we recommend taking the ILETs is that u will be assessed based on the score u get and get the points that is indicated in the package and then u will know for sure if u get the points u deserved!

Well, has anyone ever done this before or heard of anyone who has done a similar thing? What if I send a typed letter indicating that I will be appearing for the IELTS next month and will send in my scores as soon as I receive them and briefly describe my English proficiency. The reason why I'm asking is because I am in a rush to send in my application by the end of this month, as I cannot anticipate what changes will be made to the NOC list, if any, once the new list is out. Its not possible to take the IELTS and get the results so soon. What if the new list gets rid of my occupation as one of the eligible occupations to apply under? I'm in a dilemma now......

Sure, u can do that, apply now, enclosed, a letter to explain that u will be taking ILETS and will send in the results once u are done. If u are only in the first stage of application, its ok cause they do not ask for ILETS now, but once yr AOR (2nd stage) then yr ILETS results must be ready for submission or else, there will not be a second chance and also they will not accept anymore explainations.

Actually in the initial stage of application, ILETS is not required, only when AOR is sent and then ILETS would have to be sent with the other required detail application and documents.

There r a couple of reasons why i plan to land in calgary, firstly, i used to study in U of C many years back, so i am quite familiar with Calgary, secondly, i prefer calgary to vancouver and Toronto in terms of population size and also cost of living, thirdly, i like the outdoors, and calgary is next to the rockies, fourtly, i intend to go into the petrol chemical industry, so calgary is the natural choice as the major centre for oil and gas industry, and lastly, calgary has nice people around relative to vancouver and toronto! ;-)

The new rule means that no applicant will be given a second chance to prove their language ability. So people who first language has not been English I would recommend them to take IELTS as they will not give the applicant a second chance.

Just my opinion.

Yes, indeed, i agree with what Rocky mentioned, its advisable for those whose first language are not english, those who countries are not USA, Canada, Australia and UK, to send in their ILETS the very first instance based on the new policy issued in April 2010.

abelkwh,

Thanks for the reply.

Yes,i also feel that the IELTS is the foolproof evidence of one's English abilities,as there is no subjectivity involved.

Thanks

you have to appear in the IELTS. because i am also facing ur situation , in my previous immigration application visa officer (at chc islamabad) clear me for medical with same remarks as yours (unfortunately at that time i could not manage to complete my immigration because of family problems). when i again apply this time i wrote them written explanation with reference to previous visa officer remarks regarding my english proficiency but they didnt accept my written explanation and ask to produce IELTS result ( i need 10 points in english). i appeared and get required numbers. so you have to appear in IELTS.
