I have a bachelor's from a college in the US and my wife from a South Korean one.

My level of education is accounted for when assessing my CRS points, but it seems my wife's college education is not.

I thought ECA is what you do once you have been invited to apply, but is it not?

Also, if you graduated from a US university, do you NOT need a ECA done? (since it is giving me CRS points for my education)

You have to get an ECA done for any non-Canadian degree. This is done prior to submitting your application. If you apply for PR without it, your app will be rejected and you risk being charged with misrepresentation.

Then how is it that I am getting CRS points for my US bachelor's degree which is a non-Canadian one?

My status in brief is;
IELTS 8.5 (L 9 R 8.5 W 7.5 S 9)
Age 30
4.5 years in 0601(NOC 0)
Bachelor's from US university (no ECA done yet)
No experience, education, degree from Canada

Wife
No IELTS
Age 31
Bachelor's from South Korean university (no ECA done yet, either)
No experience, education, degree from Canada

With above info, CIC is giving me 410 CRS points. But if I DO need an ECA done for my US bachelor's like you say, my points should be much lower.

Since I am getting points for my education, is it safe to think that CIC recognizes my US bachelor's degree? while I still have to have my wife's ECA done prior to EE application submission?

Because the CRS calculator by default assumes that you already have your ECA done ..Apply for it ASAP as it takes couple of months to come.

So regardless of whether my education is from the US or not, I need to have my ECA done. Got it. Thanks!

I have a US bachelors and Masters Degree. I had to have an ECA. CIC assumes that if you're putting information into the system you have an ECA and adds the points. However if you apply for Pr without the document they will undoubtedly reject your application.

Read the process on CICs website. It clearly states everyone needs an ECA for non-Canadian degrees. You are not the exception.

No it doesn't, getting the ECA is 2-3 weeks at most.

it's the FBI PCC that takes months

And yes to the original poster you need to get your wife's degree ECA'd as well if you want the points
