Hello,

I am a Canadian Citizen currently living in the US. My 18yr old step daughter was just accepted at UofT as an international student. Since I am not living in Canada, and won't be returning for a few years at least, we are wondering if my parents could sponsor her for residency to reduce her tuition costs. We don't believe there is any requirement that she is a resident for 3 years or something before she would be eligible for residency based tuition....

Since she is over 18, she is not considered dependent, and she is not my biological daughter, therefore not related to my parents by blood. Can my parents sponsor a step-grandchild for residency?

Thank you in advance for any help.

No. There are a number of impediments to this. Any sponsorship would have to come via your generation.

Hi

Even you can't sponsor your step child. You could sponsor your spouse and your step child could be included. That would require you to show you were moving back to Canada.
