I had a working visa and arrived in Canada on November 19th 2010 , i stayed for one year. I returned to Canada on my second working visa in April 2012 and will currently be staying until next april.
I am dating a Canadian for a year and a half and we have been living together since April when i returned.

I need to find a way to stay here.

My current job can be classified as a sales associate, Front house manager or Food server. I have been working in my job since april 30th. The company is a bakery and cafe. Unfortunately they are unable to sponsor me.

I have a four year honor degree in Graphic design and multimedia.
I am 23 years old and from Ireland.
Studying in canada is not an option.

Can you please give me some information of what i can do.

Kindest regards,
Jamie

Hi Jamie,

You can do two options:

- after 12 continous months of living together, your girlfriend could sponsor you as a common-law spouse.
- you can apply as a Federal Skilled Worker if you meet the critera once the program is running again.

Neither program will allow you to work in Canada with a work permit. You will need to find an employer willing to provide a LMO. If you go the spousal sponsorship route, if you "Inland" you can apply for an open work permit at the same time. After Stage 1 approval (about 6 months right now), you would get the work permit.

If you share what province you're in, we may be able to provide additional details as each province as it's own rules with immigration.

Family Sponsorship: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/sponsor/spouse.asp

Federal Skilled Worker (FSW) eligibility. Please note they are revamping the program so this may change early next year: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/apply-who.asp

If you have a preference about which route would work better for you, let us know. We can get into more detail!

I would also recommend reading the Pinned thread in the Family Class section by Leon. It's our "Bible" for Family Class.

I live in Vancouver B.C.
The lMO sounds good but it will be tough for my employers to show why they can't just hire a canadian person. I live in Whistler, the big ski resort, so jobs are snatched up when available.

I was just reading over your federal skilled worker link. I think i do classify under management i think. I was assistant manager with high supervisory responsibilities.
"a skill type 0 (managerial occupations) or skill level A (professional occupations) or B (technical occupations and skilled trades) on the Canadian National Occupational Classification (NOC) list."
I have worked one whole year as an assistant manager in canada and again since april this year.

Thank you so so much for your help!
