Guy's, I'm creating this thread for most of us scheduled for oath ceremony, coming up sooner April/May rather than later.
Just wondering if the strike will affect our ceremony. Will they reschedule?? Let's discuss!!

Services partially or fully disrupted
In the event of a labour disruption, like most Government of Canada services, most IRCC services would be impacted. You should expect delays with:

  • processing applications
  • in-person appointments or events including citizenship ceremonies
  • contacting IRCC via email, phone or social media
  • consular citizenship and passport services
  • passport services in Canada
As we learn more about a possible labour disruption, we will continue to update this page to tell you how services may be impacted.

Oh boy!!! This isn't good at all, I hope they labor don't go for long if they don't reach a better agreement with the Government officials.

Members of Canada's largest public sector union have voted in favour of a strike mandate affecting more than 120,000 public servants.
Last week, 35,000 Canada Revenue Agency workers voted in favour of strike action. That means more than 155,000 public servants from five large bargaining groups could be in a legal strike position by the end of this week.

Man this isn't good at all, I hope they don't go on a very long one.

I spoke to a friend of mine working with CRA yesterday and they mentioned they have agreed to go for discussion rather than go for strike right now.
OMG!! That’s somewhat of a relief to hear!

Keeping my fingers crossed for all of us! I have tickets booked for early June, and I’m beyond stressed out over this!!!

There is nothing in the news cycle to corroborate that.

All it says is that the sides are still talking and CRA workers could walk out starting Friday. There seems to be two unions involved.

Mine is scheduled for May 1. Have not received the email yet. Anyone know how soon that comes. Think there could be issues getting that email if the strike starts

"A spokesperson for Treasury Board President Mona Fortier said in a statement Wednesday afternoon their goal is to reach a deal at the bargaining table as soon as possible, and they believe "significant headway" has been made in the last week. "

Thanks for that link. After carefully reading that article, I'm fairly optimistic that a strike is not imminent. Specifically the following quotes by the Union's president and one from a government official:

A spokesperson for Treasury Board President Mona Fortier said in a statement Wednesday afternoon their goal is to reach a deal at the bargaining table as soon as possible, and they believe "significant headway" has been made in the last week.

..........

The minister's office statement Wednesday said a labour relations board report about two months ago gives "a realistic path to an agreement."

............

Also, if there is a strike, it could happen anytime between now and June 10th, according to the following quote. So they have a pretty good amount of time to NEGOTIATE, before striking. I'm hoping a strike would only happen as a last resort. That is, if "talks" totally reach a dead end:

Aylward did not say when a strike could happen. Legally, the union said it now starts a 60-day window to call a strike, which runs until June 10.

Man all this tax money I pay, I would have hoped would go towards making the lives of these government workers and services in Canada better. That's the whole premise of taxes, isn't it?
